Why silver?
It's not done, that's just the base coat.

Looks like most people use white with a little tan added to get the proper color, guess I'll be testing that tonight.

Why silver?
Because it's an anti-bacterial.  In the old covered wagon days, settlers would buy a solid silver coin and drop it in their milk jugs.  The silver would keep the milk from going bad without refrigeration.  Silver paint on the Millenium falcon or other space-going vessel keeps Mynocks from chewing on power cables.

Didn't silver paint also help the Falcon make the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs? :o

It's like Geek-Jenga up in here. :^)
Hell, it's like...we should all get together and comment on bad movies or something :P

It's not silver any more, had a major mishap with the top and had to strip off the top paint layer and restart the tan color layer.

Every darn image I look at of the filming models gives me different ideas on what the color should be, getting tired of messing with it so this is it, the really tricky part will be weathering this...

Did minimal painting of the cockpit, there's tons of detail molded into the plastic but you can't really see any of it through the windows, I guess it's there so if you go nuts lighting it up it's all there for you.

The painting issues are starting to take the fun out of building this Falcon.

Here's where it is right now, I'll have to seal this before trying to dirty up the nooks and crannies, the tan paint is not reacting well with the dark wash:

Not real happy with the color, hoping once I add grime it will look better.

Apparently you can order the correct OT radar dish on shapeways for this.

Yes, I've seen that and it looks pretty good.

I might try to design one that I can 3D print myself, I'm not going to glue the dish on, it's a tight press fit but shouldn't be hard to pop off and stick a different one on there.

To save cost they mirrored the edges on the mandibles, all those greebles are different on the port and starboard side of the studio models.  And of course the different studio models have slight differences, so the people that go nuts for accuracy have to pick what version to build.  There are videos of people going nuts with this Bandai kit rebuilding the all the little parts, cutting in the blast damage, heating and bending the tiny edges of the hull.....
