Just finished another Star Trek model, the 1:1000 refit Enterprise.

Tried a method for shading the deflector dish that didn't work so well.

spoilered for many images:

To dispel some of the misconceptions about head injuries you have developed from watching movies and TV, I wrote this: ...Some Information on Head Injury Effects

Sweet, I never got very far with my builds.
Oh I bought them on eBay. I don't have the skill to build them myself.

After watching a recent Tested.com video where they were talking about Bandai snap fit kits I got curious, ordered the 1/12 scale BB8 and R2D2 set.  These kits are quite amazing, huge number of parts for such small models, and they fit together perfectly.  And putting multiple colors including clear on the same sprue, that's some precision injection molding they've got there...

Quick build and weathering of the BB-8 this evening:

The R2D2 model has way more parts, that will take a few days.

Got the R2D2 from the kit done this evening.

Still deciding if I'm weathering or leaving him looking new, he was pretty clean after they fixed him up after being shot up in the death star trench....  Either way I've got to wait a day or 2 for the paint on there now to dry.

Still have to paint all the tools that come out of his chest.

Just spent the evening making R2D2 dirty, might have over done it a bit, I may take off a layer in the future, easy to do with acrylics, some rubbing alcohol on a qtip would work.

And I just ordered this kit of the Falcon, quite insane level of detail, I've never done a Falcon because of the painting, but with this kit I can paint the parts before snapping them together, I won't get it like the pictures but it won't be plain white:

I have a few of those Bandai kits. Only made the sandtrooper so far but I love him. I gave him a the R2 and 3po set but I'm waiting for a free weekend (haha I have 2 kids under 3, there's no such thing) to do it justice. I want to repaint the dome on R2 to be more silver and to fix a molding seam.

Also bought the X-wing and Y-wing. Still want the  TIE to go with the Vader TIE as well.

I want to repaint the dome on R2 to be more silver and to fix a molding seam.

I thought about doing something about that seam, yes the dome would have to be completely painted if that seam were filled with putty.  I'm just not sure I want the dome as bright as the paints I have, I may see if I can mix up a slightly darker aluminum color by adding a few drops of dark grey, I've found it can be tricky changing metallic paint colors...

I'd also like the blue to be metallic, so I want a high-shine metallic on all of it and then I'll do a transparent blue over those parts.  Eventually anyway.

I'm starting on the Bandai 1:144 Falcon, it is quite insane with detail, and tiny, tiny pipes....

These pipes are big compared to the ones along the edges:

They give you the option of a windowless cockpit or a clear plastic one you've got to mask and paint in the window frames, but the only option for the gun bays is clear plastic.  So, since I want to see into the cockpit easily I'm doing it windowless, and designed and 3D printed a part to make the gun bay now match the cockpit:

I think it's going to take days to get a paint mix just right for the top coat on the hull, that tan/yellow whatever they call it color is a pain....

Here's the side showing the crazy tiny pipes:

They'll pop more after I dirty up the crevices with some black wash.
