Didn't Brent Spiner die in the first one? the alien killed him in that lab, right?

But Fierstein's character is dead, though, right?

I saw it and I... didn't hate it. It was just okay. That's the problem though, all these new characters felt very bland and the movie suffered from having too many subplots and as a result I felt like it lost focus. Also, during the last 15 minutes the movie undergoes a really odd tonal shift and some things happened that really confused me. At least nobody was trying to upload a virus into the alien mother ship this time though.

One thing really annoyed me, Early in the movie

So a disaster movie?

Fair enough, but even last year's "San Andreas" had more heart and soul to it. At least that had the Rock. I'm not sure this is supposed to be just a disaster movie though. It's more of the alien invasion sub genre and if you want to see it for yourself, feel free, but I couldn't help but feel even though I didn't like the first ID4, it felt like there was something missing in Resurgence that made the first one a better movie.
