I guess people remember him saying "Earf" because people are secretly racist and they assume, since Will Smith is technically black, that he must also be poor and uneducated. Which is ridiculous; Will Smith is, like, the fourth blackest person in Independence Day. Bill Pullman is blacker than Will Smith.

I think it's also egged on by the fact that when the "Earf" line is memed, they use the screenshot of Will talking with the cigar in his mouth, so the memer tries to justify it in his head by saying he couldn't say Earth properly with his mouth full, not remembering that moment is when he's giving the secondary and lamer catch-phrase "Now that's what I call a close encounter."

Ha!  I always forget about Harvey Fierstein's character until I watch the movie again. I like the actor, he can be funny. But that character and dialog he's given is just cringe inducing.

Just got done watching this tonight and even though it was entirely in Spanish (cause I'm in Mexico currently) I thought the special effects were pretty good though the plot confused me a bit
I'll rewatch it in English when I get home
