Kung Fu Hustle

The comedy version of Crouching Tiger.  ;D

This movie was a huge surprise for me.  Was not expecting it to be so good, and funny, and very well made.

I hated this movie with a passion. I saw it in the theaters and it really made me angry.

I'd go Shaolin Soccer over this but I still love it

I think I hated the cartoony aspects of it. None of it made sense and none of it worked. And now I'm really pissed that it's here because it's going to take away votes from Crouching Tiger, which was a far better movie and had more of an impact in Asian cinema and how the West perceives Asian cinema.

That's too bad, it all makes perfect sense to me.  Maybe you should give it another view?  I don't think I appreciated all the plot lines until seeing it a few times.

Even the action in Crouching Tiger is cartoony as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, I wasn't nearly as impressed with Croushing Tiger as most other people were apparently. It was still BLATANTLY obvious that they were on wires and stuff during the stunts (and no just becasue they were technically impossible to do without them, I mean the motion).

I nominate

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967)

This is possibly the most influential film in getting middle America to look at and start to question their biases against interracial relationships.

I love both of them. For drastically different reasons, obviously.

I will nominate Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolff? for the next list.  Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor are fantastic in this.

Relaxing Dragon

In still trying to get some modern horror landmarks in here, I nominate Scream.

That one pretty much changed the face of modern horror, from how the characters in a movie talked to each other to what sort of individuals were cast to how studios treated making them. It was a legitimate game-changer that imitators have been trying to best for almost 20 years (to no avail).

I agree, this should be on the list.  But I realized that clicking 'Like' for this might give the wrong impression, as they are so disturbed and disturbing in the film 'Like'-ing the film seems to me next to impossible.  [That feeling about it may be influenced by my prior career, however.]

a pretty girl is like

For me Crouching Tiger has all the best of the classical aspects of wuxia movies with the added bonus of a coherent plot, great cinematography, great design and a genuinely touching story.

Kung Fu Hustle is The Mask with more kicking.  Good for one viewing only as far as I'm concerned.
I'm all out for kicks...and every inch of me spells EXCITEMENT!

Also someone needs to nominate Ong Bak because Tony Jaa needs to get in on this!

It has more story and character than you're giving it credit for. (especially compared to Ong Bak...)
