The Ninja Turtles are going to be ALIENS now? *sigh*

The original ninja turtles movie is such a well-made film.  It had the perfect balance of action, story, character development, drama, fantasy, and humor.  Even the second one is a fun popcorn movie.  Of course, the less said about the third one, the better.

Anyway, if the new one sucks, at least we still have the first one and to a lesser extent the second one we can still enjoy.

I see where you're coming from but every time I watch it I keep getting this overwhelming vibe from the first movie that the 80's were dying out and the 90's were taking over. I don't know... the turtles don't really come off as bad-ass crime fighters to me. I guess I'm trying to say the foot clan seemed really dumbed down as villains and weren't as bad-ass as I think the film wanted us to think they were. Then again, they were pretty weak in the TV show as well, so I can't really fault the movie there. I do think if it was trying to be as gritty as the tone implied, there should have been a stronger element of tension and danger. It didn't seem like the Turtles were ever really in any danger in the first place anyway. Meh, ignore me, I don't even know what I'm trying to say.

The only real problem with the first movie was that while adapting most of their story from the original comics, they took some of the tone from the far more popular cartoon, and the two weren't quite a perfect mesh. Kind of necessary though, needed to hook the kids, and didn't want to piss off the parents too much.

Every day, this sounds more and more like a CollegeHumor "If Michael Bay Produced Ninja Turtles" parody.

Darth Geek

"Every day"? This is the first I've heard on this project in months.  I thought it was dead. Too bad it's not. Produced by Michael Bay is bad enough,  but directed by the guy who made Darkness Falls and Battle Los Angeles? We're in for some baaaad crap.

SJP

I still can't believe they're going ahead on this when they have the new Nickelodeon show which is, arguably, one of the best adaptations they've ever done (and this is coming from a guy who grew up on the 80s one).  The movie and new show will have nothing to do with each other, which will make kids that are fans of the new show confused, and longtime fans nothing but angry and embittered.

I mean, yeah, Ninja Turtles is still kids entertainment and fluff (at least, outside of the original comics), when you get right down to the heart of it, but don't kids deserve better than this clown and his endless parade of nonsense?

The scary thing THERE is the possibility of some corporate big-wig scrapping the successful (And indcredibly fun- BOOYAKASHA!) Nickelodeon show so they can release a different animated show that's more in-line wth the movie in order to deal with that confusion.

Know who you get to play an Irish Girl-Next-Door reporter?

If you're Michael Bay, you get Megan Fox, apparantly...

I do have to admit, my first thought when I originally saw that article was: Well, at least this April O'Neill will actually have, you know, BREASTS!
It always seemed rediculous to me in the original live action movie the actress the got to play April was so flat and otherwise unappealing. It may not be the most important part of the character to get right, but it's not like she was some really great actress either. How do you fuck that casting up, in HOLLYWOOD CALIFORNIA?!

Of course, a bubbleheaded bad actress playing a reporter brings back horrible memories of Eva Mendes as Roxy in Ghost Rider. She may have looked attractive, but damn was she aweful.

Pak-Man

I'm pretty sure everyone's job in Ghost Rider was to make Nick Cage's performance look decent by comparison. (Whether they succeeded or not is up for debate...)

But while we're at it, based on this news, here are my casting predictions for "Ninja Turtles."

Raphael - Bruce Willis
Donatello - Shia LeBouf
Leonardo - Ben Affleck
Michaelangelo - Will Smith
Venus DeMilo - Liv Tyler
Splinter - John Turturro
The Shredder - Nick Cage
Tatsu - Tyrese Gibson
Michaelangelo's leg's love-interest - Mojo the Chihuahua
Ace Duck - Bruce Campbell
Mondo Gecko - Pauly Shore

Ace Duck - Bruce Campbell

Actually, this is a casting decision I can get fully behind.
Yeah, me too. If he were younger I'd say he'd be a great Casey Jones. And I also like the casting of Nick Cage as Shredder, if he's go completely nuts with it.

Just have him go for his "Fu Manchu" performance from the Grindhouse trailers.

He used NONE of my casting ideas!

Quote from: IGNMichael Bay and Jonathan Liebesman's Ninja Turtles reboot is casting up. Last week, Alan Ritchson (Aquaman from Smallville and soon to be Gloss in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) was the first actor picked (as Raphael). Now the other three (teenage mutant?) ninja turtles have also been selected.

Pete Ploszek will play Leonardo, Jeremy Howard will play Donatello and Noel Fisher will play Michelangelo in the film. These will be performance capture gigs that, according to Deadline, should result in a "more sophisticated Avatar-like approach."

Clearly, the filmmakers are not going for big-name talent to play the turtles, leaving that role to be filled by Megan Fox (who was previously cast as April O'Neil). Reportedly the villain Shredder will be picked soon as well.

Ninja Turtles is scheduled for a June 6, 2014, release.
