Wait, didn't the hating on Affleck bandwagon crash and burn years ago?
No. For details, see the newly released Quiptracks of Paycheck.

So Will Arnett is in the movie now, presumably as an exploding fireball character must run away from while yelling "Ooooooh, shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii--"

Pak-Man

So who do you cast to play this guy?

Why Whoopi Goldberg, of course!

He's gonna be Vern (as in the goofy bumbling guy from the cartoon series who worked with April)  Perfect casting for that character... but it also shows the direction the film is headed in terms of "lightheartedness" (read also: camp)
...and there he was, reigning supreme at number two.  The One... The Only... The Unabeefer.

So they're not even going goofier from the original source material?  They're intentionally going to the campiest version, then Micheal Baying it up from there.

Shit.

What I find rather saddening is that they haven't figured out that fans are pretty much itching for (yes I'll use the buzz-words) a darker grittier version of the Ninja Turtles.

Darker and grittier than we're used to seeing, yeah, but not compared to the origins.  If they can just get CLOSE to the tone of the original comics it would be a great thing.  I don't expect any new version of it to ever really reach that level, but the best elements of past versions are the ones that get close.  The first live action movie borrowed heavy from the original comics and that's why I think it still holds up so well.

The Lurker

I wouldn't mind if it was somewhat between the Live action ones and Archie's Adventure series, which could get really dark at times.

I was watching some of the original series recently.  I really hate what they do to poor Baxter Stockman.

TheUnabeefer

I'm almost done with season 3. (I caved and pre-ordered the turtle van box set when it was announced)   That has to be the most meta show ever, really.

Baxter gets fun toward the end when he starts to go crazier and crazier...

You know, I think I'm rethinking my stance on this movie. Yeah, it's going to be a train wreck, but it might be an entertaining kind of train wreck. If Michael Bay can pull off more of a cheesy GI Joe: Rise of Cobra style tribute to the original series, this thing could be watchable...

Never saw any of the GI Joe movies... I was waiting for a riff.

If he could do that, the Transformers movies would be MUCH more fun. But ultimately, it falls on Jonathan Liebsman's shoulders. And given his previous movies, I have my doubts.

Baxter gets crazier, but any fun is hampered by the fact that they just keep making his life worse and worse.  Turn him into a fly, then strand him in a dimensional void with a sentient computer.  Let him out temporarily, severely damage the computer, throw him back in the void.  Almost restore him to human form, but decide against that and throw him into the void permanently.

That is a common theme with Baxter it seems, even when he has nothing to do with being a fly.  His life got worse on a per-episode basis during the early 2000's cartoon as he was punished for his failures, eventually losing most of his body in the process.  Looks like the same might be true of him in the new series, though I've only seen a little bit of it.

I only remember him in one story of the original comics though, but he was a drastically more evil character.  Basically a terrorist that was in it for the money.
