Yeah, I don't see this one getting any higher than that. Unless it continues to play for the next 5 months or so, it looks like it's going to settle in at #3. Like pretty much all modern blockbusters, it's very front loaded, and however massive that front is, it's still at the diminishing returns stage.

Will DKR top it? Hard to say, though I'm not really so sure. I mean, Avengers basically had 5 movies before it to advertise for it. Sorta hard to top that.

And Prometheus isn't getting that high. Not a chance. This isn't a crack towards its quality or anything, this is just the fact that that's not the kind of movie that breaks box office records.

With 2 matinee tickets to Avengers 3D costing me $27 bucks I have to be really picky when it comes to what I go see. I probably won't see Batman or Promethius until they show up on Netflix.

Okay I have to ask, what good is Ant Man in a fight?
He can shrink down and go places other characters never could. He can expand and become huge, too I think.

So he goes up the villain's butt and then make himself big causing the villain to explode?!

Only if Alan Moore writes him.

It's a bit late, but here's some things people might find of interest, though I expect many already are aware of these.

Here's the first time the Avengers 'assembled' to fight Loki.  He was the baddie that brought them together in the first issue of the Avengers, of which this is the cover.

A few pages back, someone asked who the Skrulls were.  I dug around in my 'e-comics' and here is the first appearance of the Skrulls in an Avengers comic.  Issue #93, page 23.  (The only way you may see that it is an Avengers issue instead of a Captain Marvel issue is the tiny little insert picture and voice balloon in the lower right.)

He can also mentally command insects (an ability he uses to horrifying effect in The Ultimates).

Does the total for Titanic include all three times it has been released in theaters? It was released in theaters three times, right?

Yep. The yellow indicates movies currently in theaters...and urine; but mostly movies currently in theaters.

I really need to get around to fabricating the menus for the inevitable Rifftrax.

There is no way it will become number one but it would be nice if it knocked Titanic out of second spot.

And Prometheus isn't getting that high. Not a chance. This isn't a crack towards its quality or anything, this is just the fact that that's not the kind of movie that breaks box office records.

It is also rated R. Passion of the Christ holds the record for highest grossing R rated film at 370 mil.

Now if Prometheus could knock that movie off the top R spot, THAT would be great.

wurwolf

I think Prometheus was mentioned, not as a contender for one of the highest-grossing movies of all time, but as a movie that will attract the Avengers' audience and so diminish the latter movie's box office take over the next couple of months.

Ridley Scott is an insufferably arrogant asshole, but yes, I'd like to see this too.
Not nearly as much as the people who encouraged their followers to see a torture porn flick, yet would protest the same kind of movie if it were about anyone else.

Did I miss something? Maybe I glossed over it because it contained the moronic, meaningless, media-created buzzword "torture porn."

EDIT: Oh. Passion of The Christ. I'm a geeeeenius. My point about that stupid phrase "torture porn" still stands.

Well the audience for The Avengers is already diminishing, but I feel like the apparently-Cthulhu-inspired, R-rated, supposedly-slow-going sci-fi flick that is Prometheus won't attract all of the same people that a more mainstream release like The Avengers would bring in.

Tripe

See I've never took that to be a pejorative; I don't think the cooking magazines I subscribe to are bad but I do think of them as food porn, I don't think of the blogs filled with pics of trees as being something bad but I do think of them as tree porn. Mind you, I don't think porn is a bad thing to begin with .

I just think it means the main thrust of the work is to present the thing the viewing is looking to see: With Bon Appetite it's recipes and pretty pics of  food. With Saw et al, the viewer is going to see the creative use of torture devices. I'm sure it began as a critical term but it merely seems descriptive really.
