QuoteSpeaking of Cars merchandise, I'm waiting for someone to combine one of the Cars characters with a Transformer.  I don't know if I'd buy one, but I think it would be a funny juxtaposition

It would be cool if it could turn into a charectar from another pixar movie.

While I was at Botcon I saw these:

It's a for-real crossover thing that happened in Japan. I ended up picking up Mickey because he looks so awesome and battle-ready. :^)

Do the Japanese have to turn EVERYTHING into a robot?

Sweet merciful crap, they've gone and done it, haven't they?  (Video is work safe, but still horrifying.  And it was easier to find than you might think.)

As for the whole Disney/Pixar thing, I really don't care about Cars in general, so whether it's good or bad, it's not all that interesting to me.  Pixar makes fine movies, I will give them that, but what bugs me the most is how Disney axed its 2D animation department as obsolete.

No, no, Disney...people weren't going to see your movies because they were in 2D.  They weren't going because they were terrible.  If "Planes" bombs out, don't blame the medium...blame the fact that you cranked out a product for the sole reason of wanting money, as opposed to making something good that's worth earning money on.  And considering how you release your genuine classic animated films to the general public the way crack dealers like to screw with hobos who owe them money, you clearly hate the general public as well.

Though I have to admit, their Blu-rays are some of the most stunning products available on the market.  The preview of Lion King on the Tangled disc looks amazing, and only furthers my anger why they think 2D animation is out of vogue.

And Adam Corolla, and Nicole Sullivan, and...Sorry, but that show was legitimately awesome. They even got Bobcat Goldthwait for 5 episodes!

I haven't seen the show since it originally aired, but I remember loving it. The cast was fantastic--at times, Warburton made a better Buzz than Tim Allen.

They've successfully recreated Juliette Lewis! I bet it smells better, too.

And yeah, that's beyond creepy. Gotta kinda wonder where that technology is headed. Can I pre-order?

No one's commented on this yet, but was that Dave Foley as the voice of the plane?  If so, that brings it up at least one notch on the watchableness scale.

If that's true, yes.  And even if it isn't that good, Dave Foley needs the money, the poor guy.  He's had a sad life in the last decade.

Meh.  That's no more convincing or creepy than the original Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

I always thought the first Cars movie got a little too much flak... I enjoy it more than Wall-E, which was a cute, if slightly trite, little short film about materialism / environmentalism that was padded out with lots and lots of scenes with robots chasing each other around... I enjoy Cars more than Up, which started out with typical "tug at the adult heartstrings" schtick early on, then went completely off the rails into some dopey action movie with murderous dogs flying biplanes. And Toy Story 3 was brilliant? The opening and closing acts were up to snuff for adults wanting to tear up over their bygone childhood... and really those acts were the only place they had left to take the characters... but that prison break movie in the middle was shoehorned in and pedestrian.

The last handful of Pixar movies just haven't done much for me... and I see them all tons of times via my children. Ratatouille was probably the most recent release that held any real rewatchability for me... I don't think they are losing their touch necessarily... but I do think their last three releases haven't quite clicked... nothing they've done lately has been as tightly written and well constructed as their earlier efforts.

I'll probably see Cars 2 at some point over the weekend... my son has already reminded me more than once about the pending release. I don't have high expectations because it's a sequel... and McQueen has already learned his big life lesson... so this story isn't going to have much impact. This looks to be a silly spy movie cliche with Mater as the star. I really thought the character of Mater was great in the first movie, but like many supporting clown types, he is best in small doses.

38%. Ouch. That's quite a fall. I hope somebody learns a lesson here.

Probably still going to make a ton of money at the box office, and even more in merchandising.

Invader_quirk

I hope Pixar is disappointed by the reception, though. If they regard this as a success, that would mean they've lost their soul.

Doctor Who?

It doesn't matter what the reviews say or how much money it makes,it's an ad for toys not a movie so Pixar doesn't care as long as it sells toys.

Pixar does not make movies, they make 100 minute toy ads.  Now if parents would stand up and refuse to buy the toys then they would get the message and maybe go back to making movies.  Until people stop buying toys or Pixar breaks apart from Disney all we are going to get them them are toy ads because that is all Disney makes.  Disney has no creativity what so ever, the moment they bought Pixar Pixar was done making movies.  The only reason the last few were good is because they were in production before Disney bought Pixar.  Cars 2 is the first one that was put into production after disney bought them and it shows what the future of Pixar is now that it is owned by the worst movie studio on the planet.  Honestly I really wish Pixar had remained their own studio instead of letting Disney buy them.  this is just sad.
