Man, from the sequel I didn't want comes a spin-off?  I'm hoping Cars 2 is good enough to justify the amount of effort Disney and Pixar are putting into this.

To be fair, as I tried to imply in the playlet, Pixar has no involvement in his.  Which is really bad.  I'm not sure if this is an actual spin-off or if it's just a weird misguided cash grab.

John Lasseter is the head of Disney Animation Studios, so while it may not be Pixar animators, you can't say Pixar has no involvement.

Oh crap. It's the adventures of Petey the Plane! Since this is a world without humans at least their won't be depressed people drinking coffee and trying to kill each other with acid in their parachutes.

Isn't the entire Cars thing supposed to be Lasseter's thing anyway? I'm not sure he was forced into this at all (Cars on its own already makes a metric ton of money in merchandising every day, I don't think there was a lot of pressure to step the game up... that sentence made sense in my head, I swear).

At any rate, I'm interested to see how it turns out. Cars may be Pixar's weakest link, but it's still better than most give it credit for, so I'm curious how they handle both the sequel and these shorts (they're also doing Toy Story shorts, so that they're branching out into pseudo-spin-offs for their properties isn't completely unexpected).

I thought there was no way that they could make toy story 3 a good movie.  And i was right.   It was an amazing cinematic triumph (got that from an old movie critics playbook)  but seriously it was a truly great movie.  Im not yet ready to give up on cars 2.   Also planes?  for some reason i cant quite put my finger on i feel oddly connected and drawn to this movie.  Im blaming the B2.  also who thought that a rob zombie song made sense to put in a kids movie trailer?

Doctor Who?

Well I guess it had to happen some day.  Pixar has just become another studio in it for the cash not to be creative.  Mark my words from now on all their movies will be bad sequels or be adds for toys like Cars.

I have no intention of ever seeing another Pixar movie, they no longer make films they just make adds for toys.

Yeah, such a horrible trend that goes all the way back...to...movies that aren't out yet, one of which isn't Pixar?

Can't think of a single Pixar movie I've seen that fits that description.

My favourite bit of it is that they're using More Human Than Human in the trailer, that has to be one of the most family friendly songs ever, plus it's probably in the record collections of a bunch of the parents, that'll be fun for the kids to listen to.

It was weird enough when Lilo and Stitch used an AC/DC song in the trailers.  But then again Disney is also a company that released an album of cover songs from Nightmare Before Christmas featuring Marilyn Manson, so whatever.

Yeah, just because we're not particularly enthused by Cars 2 or Planes, doesn't mean that they a) can't pull it out of the bag and make those films awesome and b) make awesome movies in the future.

Have a little faith, Doc, I thought that was your thing.  :)

I hope Cherikee Jack can make a cameo

Doctor Who?

I'm trying to have faith but between Toy story 3,Cars 2,and Monsters Inc 2 it sure feels like Pixar is being turned into just another sequel factory.

But Toy Story 3 was the best (for me) of the series and the other 2 haven't come out yet.  Cars 2 looks to be at least going in a different direction than its predecessor, and who knows what Monsters Inc 2 is going to be like? I thought the first one was fantastic.  Sure I'm a little bummed that they may not be doing original properties at the moment, but that doesn't discount that the films they are doing won't be as good as the ones they've done before.
