QuoteNo encore of the Reefer show is planned, unless there's a huge demand for it; but the shows have not done nearly as well as we'd hoped they would (exception being Plan 9, which did really well) so it's not likely to happen.

My suggestion (since several people had problems with their theaters, including me,several times now) - do it live via online... or what about ppv?  Who wouldn't love to have a rifftrax party for their friends?

I think that is the plan eventually.  Every once in awhile they have an online event (excitement, thy name is shuffleboard), but they haven't done one for months.  If I am remembering that right, and online riffs are something they are working towards, plan on it happening later rather than sooner.  I am probably the least tech savvy person here, so I don't know what all is required to get something like that put together, but I am sure "easy" isn't involved in the process anywhere.

Yeah, something new (movie selection wise) would be a plus :o

Just sayin.. 8)

We did an entire evening of surprise shorts.  Not having seen the content before is not the factor driving ticket sales, nor is a special guest.  Plan 9 was the biggest seller, the christmas show and Reefer were pretty much identical.  The fact that we've done movies that are available on RiffTrax DVDs does not matter to most people, as anyone who's been to a show knows that A) the experience is very substantially different to what is on DVD and B) there is always new material in the form of shorts.

That jack the giant killer poll is the only time I've ever seen a group of people construe an internet poll as a binding legal contract.  We're not even sure if that movie is actually public domain.

You are correct, sir. Though I would say that while it won't be 'sooner' it won't exactly be 'later' either. We're just trying to make sure absolutely everything is properly in place to avoid a repeat of the Planet of Dinosaurs catastrophe.
Any issues with the RiffTrax main page should be directed to support@rifftrax.com Attempts to engage with me directly about such matters will result in ridicule.

I think we scared them with that riff in the HULK and they don't want to blackout San Fransisco.

Starman!

I don't think that Jack the Giant Killer is PD. MGM owns the only DVD release.

I hope a DVD comes out for HOHH. I didn't see an ad for the Reefer Madness DVD, but I saw one for the Maniac DVD.

Well, I'm out of reasons then...other than people came to the first one and thought, "Wow, you know....this isn't that interesting", the announcer and that musical guest really put people off and all that's coming to the ones since are the real diehards.

Sorry.  You've shot down everything else.

Maybe the reuse of movies hasn't directly been the problem...or been the issue at all....but that doesn't mean that using a movie never riffed before couldn't give the live show a shot in the arm that it seems to need.   And a movie that people know the running time of makes people feel more secure about getting "value for money" than a show made up of a group of shorts that could last 6 minutes each or 6 seconds (again, we're talking about the casual fans and newbies).

Not saying a show made up of shorts is a mistake - just have to let people know what they're getting for their money.  It's hard to come by these days.

(rumor has it that you liked my idea of giving a discount and putting a direct link on the digital goodies page this time...   ;) )

QuoteBut is there going to be an encore of HoHH next week? I have class on Thursday nights and I couldn't go to this one, but I was hoping to catch it on the encore on Tuesday, like I did with Reefer Madness. I have not been able to find any listings for it.

You should read my post above. In it, I said there was no encore planned.

While I appreciate the quick response, I was looking at your post which said there would be no encore of Reefer Madness. Nothing in your quote said anything about HoHH which is why I asked. Thank you for your prompt response. I have enjoyed every performance I have been able to attend and even the encore performance still had a better crowd than your regular Tuesday night crowd.

Whoops. Yeah, that was my bad. For some reason I said Reefer, but meant HOHH. Mea culpa.

Either that, or a good chunk of the first one's audience were only fans of Veronica, JoCo, or SomethingAwful.com. :P

torgos pizza, why do you have to wait 90 days? I dont understand.

Oh, and I think that Reefer Madness didnt do well( well, my theater was packed) can be attributed to the fact that you used an alternate title. Yeah, the print you hadf was Reefer Madness, but IMO alot of people know it as Tell Your Children, whitch was the films original title. Ill be willing to bet thatalot of Reefer/Tell Your Children fans saw that ad and didnt even realize that it was the same film that they know and love. At the very least, you should have put "AKA Tell your Children" on promotional materials.

PS: A movie that is becoming a HUGE cult classic these days is The Blood Waters of Dr. Z, witch recently fell into public domain. It accually got a limited theatrical Re Release in Florida.Mabe you could possibly consider riffing THAT uncut, as the mst3k version is missing alot (although that might have been the print they had) I have an uncut VHS under the title "Hydra" back when everyone THOUGHT it fell into public domain in the 80s. It is now
Im 13 and I can hate movies! DEAL WITH IT!!!

I can guarantee you that was not the problem.

You raise a good point because the very first live show was sold the hell out and I was a couple minutes late with a prepaid ticket and I literally got the last seat in the house.  Took me five minutes to find it.  Every live show since (same theater every time) has only been half full.  Something happened here locally between that first ever live show and all the ones since.

Another thought: the first show was during the summer. There were no new Community, 30 Rock, or Office episodes the night of the first show. :P

Well, that ay be true for HOHH, but Reefer Madness is just an alternate title for Tell Your Children. How can you be so sure that this had nothing to do with it? After all, its the ORIGINAL title. You know how Twilight is selling goo? Well, imagine if you used no poster and wrote it in chinese letter? Now how good would it do?

Reefer Madness is the popular title. Reefer Madness is the title everybody knows it by. I think the last time anybody actually referred to it as Tell Your Children was 1936.

The first time I found out that Reefer Madness had the alternate title of Tell Your Children was when Mike mentioned it at the beginning of his audio commentary track. Assuming people have heard of this cult film at all, they most likely remember it as Reefer Madness. For most folks, a popular film from 2008 and a cult film from 1936 are worlds apart when it comes to title recognition. Besides, Reefer Madness is a more provocative title which is likely to make people want to check it out.
