#17 - Nathan Drake
(74 Points) 4 of 24 Lists - Highest Ranking - #1 - mrbaseheart

Well, history can be wrong, you know. For example, you can't defile an empty coffin.

List of Games:

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Just the facts/Stuff I wiki'd:

Nathan "Nate" Drake is a treasure hunter and the main character of the Uncharted series. He is a supposed descendant of famous British explorer Sir Francis Drake. He is in his late 20's and is handsome with rugged features and sarcastic wit.

Nathan is very attractive, and has a dry sense of humour and is the typical hero from movies. He is also very dedicated to his work. Nathan has a unique personality. He is very protective of friends or others he cares about, and quick to help those who cannot help themselves, even if he does not know them well. He is also very quick-witted and finds humour in many of the dangerous situations he finds himself in. Aside from that, he seems to have a somewhat sadistic regard for those against him. He frequently makes sarcastic comments when he kills someone in a gunfight, and his good-hearted nature isn't affected by the many men he has killed, something Nathan never seems to take on board. Zoran Lazarevic points this out to Nathan as he prepares to finish him off, who seems to understand, and instead refuses to kill Lazaravic, realizing he will become a monster also, if he was to execute him in cold blood.

Trivia:

Nate shares his initials with Naughty Dog, the developers of the Uncharted series. On the back of Nate's gun holster in Uncharted:Among Thieves there is also NDI which stands for Naughty Dog Industries or Incorperated.

Nate's voice actor is Nolan North, the same voice actor who provided the voice for The Prince of Persia in the new trilogy.

Pak's Thoughts - This is the last character on the list from a game I've never ever played. Reading about it makes the series look like fun, though. Action-hero-ey treasure hunter is always a fun role to step into.

Just the facts/Stuff I wiki'd:

Sam and Max are, collectively, the freelance police. They are self-appointed defenders of justice as they see it.

Sam comes off as more level headed and less violent than his partner Max, albeit not by much. He typically wears a grayish film noir-styled suit, with a hat and a blue and black striped tie. In the games, he has a tendency to take everything he sees, and apparently keeps the items in a cardboard box that he carries inside his coat.

Sam is prone to long-winded sentences filled with elaborate terminology. He rarely loses his temper and is able to react to panic-inducing situations with extreme calm. When he does get angry, however, he tends to react in an uncharacteristically savage manner. In They Stole Max's Brain!, Sam shows his more violent manner of investigating than in the previous episodes, which includes beating a gorilla for information to threatening a COPS member with his revolver. It is usually, and somewhat ironically, Max that calms him down and prevents him from acting upon his anger.

He also has a very large sweet tooth, as during many of his adventures and assignments he can be seen enjoying a multitude of frozen treats such as popsicles and ice cream sandwiches, especially in the comics. In Sam & Max Season Two he becomes self-conscious about his weight, particularly when seeing his future and past selves.

Sam carries around a huge revolver. In the comics, he is quick to use it but is a very lousy shot. In the Telltale episodes he can hit any object on the first shot but is very reluctant to use it against living things, even villains. The gun is absent in the other incarnations.

Although most of the time he acts like a human in a dog costume, Sam sometimes behaves like a dog. He has growled several times in the Telltale games, and his sobbing in Sam & Max Hit the Road sounded like whining. He has also been shown to enjoy dog treats. It has been speculated that he is some sort of Irish Wolfhound.

Violent, impulsive and indulgent in the extreme, Max is the source of much of the franchise's unique humor. Max is an active member of the Freelance Police along with his long time partner and friend Sam.

He often refers to himself as a lagomorph, though he also sometimes refers to himself as a rabbit. A rabbit is a type of lagomorph, so these are not mutually exclusive. He enjoys violence and prefers to solve problems aggressively. He has a slight distaste for the long stories, anecdotes, and sentences that Sam constantly spouts forth, often asking Sam and others not to use various words such as 'ensue' and 'acumen'. He shares Sam's enthusiasm in just about anything, especially if it involves large guns and trouble. He also has very poor hygiene, as he sometimes tastes his own belly button lint, and once had a large "suspicious growth" behind his ear. Sam has commented on his pungent bodily odors on more than one occasion. Both Sam and Max have also commented on the obscure fact that Max has a metal plate in his skull. He is apparently ambidextrous as he is shown in the comics holding weapons with his right hand in some occasions while using his left in others. Max always Gobbles things up. in Bright Side of the Moon Max Gobbles a Glass containing a Bent Spoon

Max always carries a Luger around, and when asked where he keeps it usually responds with "None of your damn business.". He is fairly trigger-happy with it in the early comics, but this is rarely seen elsewhere. Like Sam, he's a lousy shot and never seen actually hitting anyone. Perhaps because of this, he prefers to get up close and simply leap at his foes and hurt them in whatever way he can come up with. This fails miserably about as often as it works; despite his boundless energy and love for violence, Max isn't particularly good at fighting.

He can be somewhat co-dependent when it comes to their relationship - there are several instances of him and Sam getting each other's names mixed up, but Max does this more often than Sam.

Sam and Max have been best friends since their early childhood. Their past selves are always shown hanging out together, such as in Terror on the Tanbark and Chariots of the Dogs, and in commemorative photos in the office, one of which shows them taking a bath.

It's not clear exactly when and how they decided to become Freelance Police, but given their shared history getting the same job was probably obvious. The same can be said about their decision to live in the same house.

Even on the job, Sam and Max never willingly split up for more than a moment. When forcibly separated, they tend to become unable to function properly and obsessed with reuniting as soon as possible. Examples of this would be Monkeys Violating the Heavenly Temple, A Glitch in Time, Culture Shock, What's new, Beelzebub? (When Sam enters his personal hell) and They Stole Max's Brain!. Strangely, they don't seem to be bothered by their separation in Sam & Max Hit the Road. In They Stole Max's Brain! Sam acted in a uncharacteristic savage manner, even to the point of using a gun for interrogation in a "bad cop" style, when Max (his brain was stolen, not the body) went missing.

Trivia:

Sam and Max started out as a comic book written and drawn by Steve Purcell, which itself is a parody of comics that his brother would draw when they were kids.

Sam is voiced by Bill Farmer in Sam & Max Hit the Road and by David Nowlin in the Telltale games.

Max is voiced by Nick Jameson in Hit the Road, and by William Kasten in the Telltale games, with the exception of Season 1, Episode 1, when he was voiced by Robert Tinkler.

Pak's Thoughts - Here it is! With all the gnashing of teeth, this is the only entry to include characters that didn't start out as video game characters, and I feel they deserve their spot on the list. Nobody had really heard of the comics until Hit the Road brought them to life, anyway. And what great characters they are! I love their back and forth to death, and they will probably always be my favorite adventure game characters.  I should probably admit right here that I was a Sierra loyalist for a very long time. I loved the text parser at the bottom and I figured adventure games would be too easy without it. Then one day I stumbled on a copy in a bargain bin going for $10. That fit my allowance at the time, and that's how I fell in love with SCUMM-based adventure games.

Phoenix Wright is one of those games I just cannot get enough of. They should never ever stop making them.

BONUS ENTRY

Master Chief
Winner of the Missed it by THAT much award - Got the most points on the most lists without making the cut
4 of 24 Lists - 31 Points - Highest #14 - mrbaseheart

I was gonna shoot my way out. Mix things up a little.

List Of Games:
Halo: Combat Evolved
Halo 2
Halo 3
Halo: Reach

Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy John-117 is a SPARTAN-II commando of the UNSC Naval Special Warfare Command. He served as one of the most important figures of the Human-Covenant War. With nearly 30 years of active duty, he is one of the most decorated war veterans in the United Nations Space Command and has earned every known medal in the UNSC except the Prisoner of War Medallion. In 2553, John-117 went missing in action after the Battle of Installation 00, when he and the current Arbiter Thel 'Vadam stopped the Flood threat.[5]

He is the protagonist and main playable character in Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, and Halo 3. In the games, John is only ever referred to by name once, by Cortana, in the ending cutscene of Halo 3 before the credits. He is referred to universally by humans simply as the "Master Chief", "Chief" for short and "Sierra-117". The Covenant is aware of the power of the Spartans, and refer to the Master Chief as "the Demon". John is referred to as "Reclaimer" by both 343 Guilty Spark and 2401 Penitent Tangent, although this seems to be a universal title given to all humans, rather than specifically referring to John-117.

Trivia:

John-117 is voiced by Steve Downes in the Halo trilogy and in Halo: Reach's Firefight mode

FLOCK of RABID SHEEP?!?!

i find it odd that sam and max were associated with star wars...

Darth Geek

I'm not even a gamer, and I'm surprised Master Chief didn't make the list.

#20 - Cloud Strife

I find Cloud pretty uninteresting, though I do like Final Fantasy 7 (though I haven't played an FF game since 10).  There is one FF character on my list but it ain't a good guy and it ain't Sephiroth (who is also overrated in my opinion).

Master Cheif DIDN'T make it? I expected top 10 at least

Bah! Philistines! I had the comic LONG before the video game.

I'll freely admit that the games were probably what cemented their awesomeness in my mind, though. ;) That, and I love Purcell's art style.

Dang, I was hoping Drake would be higher on the list.

Same here.  I think it might suffer that not too many people on here have PS3s or played the 2 Uncharted games.  Drake isn't the only character from the game that's on my list either.

I've got one more from that series, I believe. Be sure to read the whole wiki article, there was a ton of detail put into Drake to make him exactly how they wanted.

Absolutely.  I would be willing to bet that had I the means to play the likes of Uncharted, Red Dead Redemption, and Bioshock my list would have been very different.  I've never wanted a PS3 so bad in my life!

Yeah, I think I have 3 characters from Uncharted on mine.
