If they have a "game preserve" planet, why did those others come to Earth to hunt?

Or are we to believe that Ah-nuld kicking the ass of one of them caused the whole species to give up traveling to other planets and instead they ship in their prey?

Plus a couple other questions I could ask.   Hope this isn't another "Leave your brain at the door" film.

Why wouldn't it be?  The other two were.  Sure they were fun action movies but they were also dumb as a post.

I dunno.  The first one, in my opinion, is one of the best sci fi movies of the 80s, in addition to being a kick-ass popcorn movie.  It's very old-school, very John Campbell "humans always win" sci fi, to be sure.  But "dumb"?  I don't think so.

Well there is no real story,it's just a lot of guys running around yelling and it doesn't have much to see so i guess it's just me but I wouldn't call it smart Sci-Fi.  Fun?  You Bet!  But smart?  Not so sure

Just because you're not smart enough to see that the original Predator movie was an intelligent script doesn't mean that it wasn't.

Yes now I see it I am an idiot.  Arnold yelling for two hours and bad stupid catch phrases are indeed the greatest moments in screenplay history.  Shakespeare move over because your work is worthless when compared to Predator.  Also I would just like to say you are to stupid to see what made Transformers one of the greatest screenplays of all time.  Move over Citizen Kane,jump into a fire The Godfather,we don't need you any more the greatest film of all time is Predator and anyone who doesn't see that is stupid and shouldn't be allowed to watch or talk about movies.

Predator was not "smart sci-fi". It was a dumb commando movie, with an alien in it. It was fun, yes. But not deep in any way. The second movie was a cop movie, with an alien in it. And they were smart enough not to keep the alien hidden, because once you've revealed him in the first one, you can't go backwards. You can only add to it. I like the second one much more. I just like cop movies much more than dumb commando movies I guess, and the city environment is a lot more interesting than the jungle.

I will now attempt to defuse the situation by perhaps clarifying. Although Predator isn't what I'd call cerebral sci-fi fare, and there's not much to it upstairs, so to speak, it still has a GOOD story that serves its purpose well.  It takes the original conceit and milks it for all it's worth.

It's a Golden Age John Campbell "Man vs. Alien" story wrapped in campy action, but the first part IS there.  It's Fredric Brown's "Arena" with big sweaty guys.  It's also "The Thing", and any other story where big tough aliens come a-callin', show how tough they are, and then get wiped out by a Homo sapiens anyway.  It's Earth vs. the Spider when done with a healthy dose of cheese, and it's Earth vs. the Flying Saucers when it's slightly less cheesy and lent gravitas by Harryhausen.

But by all means I think you should continue to equate my and others "it's not stupid, it's actually pretty good" with "it's the best movie ever", because you're being both funny and witty with your responses.
