An admitted cold and clammy one, at that.

There may have been vampire lore that had them able to drink the blood of animals. I think it's mostly just blood as a substance, though. Animal blood isn't different than human blood, I don't think.

A bit gamier.

Sharktopus

Vampires feasting on animal blood removes the entire point of vampire stories. They're monsters that eat humans alive, but in a sexy, suck on your neck way, rather than in a zombie, devour your brains way. How is a vampire drinking animal blood any more monstrous than an Englishman eating black pudding? It's like a serial killer who only murders people on their deathbeds.

After they have stopped breathing and he then gives the family a million bucks for the trouble he put them to.

To be fair, I think this "living on animal blood" way of trying to make a vampire the good guy was started by Anne Rice in "Interview With A Vampire" - Louis lived on rats for a good stretch.  Maybe she took it from Renfield's idea of blood from animals so that he didn't have to kill people...but wasn't it that Dracula was bullshitting him about that to get Renfield to help him.  And didn't Dracula want him to drink from Mina and he refused....

That animal blood variance in the different stories doesn't bother me too much.  Daybreakers did something great with it actually.

Sharktopus

The question is, if a vampire drinks animal blood, is it a monster anymore? (Maybe to vegans.)

Or a mummy in a nursing home...

That was a damn fine movie.

If it's a regular vampire it's a living corpse so...I'd say so.

Yeah, it's still a monster. But eating animals and calling it being "vegetarian" is just incredibly stupid. And to take a monster who's various legends include hopping vampires, and vampires who's heads come off and fly around on their own, and still come up with something significantly sillier and non-threatening than that...DAMN! That is some aggressive retardation right there.

Chupacabra is a monster, and it mainly just eats goats.

Sharktopus

The chupacabra's only a monster because it doesn't really exist. (Or DOES it?) If it was real, it would just be a natural predator of goats.

Yeah, giant squid used to be called "monsters".

I should probably be corrected if I'm wrong, but I'd always heard that traditional (a loose term, since vampires seem to differ from culture to culture) vampires require human blood specifically to maintain their undead human bodies. Animal blood wouldn't cut it, since they aren't animals. Has to do with the whole "cursed to walk the Earth for eternity to feed on the living" thing. How is it as much of a curse if sucking on animal blood is just as good? I agree with you. The entire horror element is gone in that situation.

I'm actually kind of more irritated with Meyer's take on werewolves, but that's another rant.

Doctor Who?

I have not seen New Moon, dare I ask what she did to werewolves?
