The Most Ridiculous Movie-Related Thing You've Heard

People, blame Spielberg for deciding to cash in on the license in the first place. What reason did he have to do that? The most ridiculous movie-related thing I've heard? Spielberg thinking Transformers would make a good movie. If The Berg didn't direct it, how good an idea could he have really thought it was? He hired Michael Bay because Michael Bay is so good at taking blame. I'd love to see the rest of Spielberg's "List of Movies I Want to Make But Don't Want to Take Responsibility For."

No, obviously somebody else had the idea for Back to the Future. Spielberg's list consists mostly of cartoons and various sandwiches.

Spielberg should take some of the blame for how bad it turned out, though, because he decided that the movie should revolve around a boy getting his first car. That right there indicates he doesn't understand Transformers. And if he can't even understand a toy commercial... well, that explains a bit about Indy IV.
How long before we get a remake of Mac & Me?

Every Spielberg movie is about, "A boy and his..." something. Though I think you're wrong about the car. I'm pretty sure this movie was about a boy and his weenis.

I'm sorry but if everyone blames George Lucas for Howard the Duck, which he had nothing to do with, then Spielberg gets the blame for Transformers.

I'm not defending Michael Bay.  I'm just daring to say that this one particular movie, in my opinion, is not quite as bad as the people on this board say it is.  I won't claim to be a huge Transformers fan, though I did watch G1 regularly growing up.  But I don't think the movie got the ultimate concept of the show fundamentally wrong.  That concept being "a bunch of good robots fight a bunch of evil robots.  Oh, and they can change into cars."

I don't follow, he didn't have the idea for Transformers either (besides possibly "there should be a Transformers movie") so how is that different?

Ah, ScottH. Taking funny, and stomping it flat with semantics.

I thought Transformers was the movie that played most heavily to Michael Bay's strengths as a director. For better or worse.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: If you went into a Transformers move expecting one solitary thing more than giant robots wailing on each other, then the fault lies with your expectations.

Um, but it DID give you more than giant robots wailing on each other. That WAS the problem.

I'll concur it's not the worst thing ever. Just a botched attempt at a movie.

Okay... I thought I'd throw this random thing in. I have a theory. Shia Labeef is a reincarnated Jonathon Silverman (of weekend at bernies). Watch the following clip from this jonathon silverman movie.... it's uncanny! Seriously If you close you're eyes you'll find they sound nearly identical with their acting.

Silverman appears at the end of the clip.

Jonathan Silverman never made me want to kill myself. (Except to be manipulated by his strong, manly hands.)

But I'm not talking about what was in the movie; I'm talking about people's expectations. A whole lot of people went to see this with a substantial emotional investment in the concept. I'm just saying that the concept isn't necessarily strong enough to bear that much emotional weight.
