I'm baffled that people in here want this movie to fail.

You haven't been paying much attention to a lot of people on here have you?

And yet, I'm accused of the only one who is always being negative....

But it doesn't help that people have been hearing about this movie for years...about what a "groundbreaking" film it was going to be and how it was something completely new....

And now the previews are looking like something kind of mundane.  Which could be extremely deceiving in that it doesn't give you any idea about the 3-D and it might be one of the few previews that doesn't give away the whole thing....

Think the build up this film has gotten over all of this time hasn't done Cameron any favors.

It's not really a movie though, It's more like a demo reel for Cameron's new 3D tech.

That very well could be the problem.  But that's been the problem with most Michael Bay films...and there are people who love those films, we're told.

The only thing on my mind was Starship Troopers vs. Ferngully.

ACE!!!

I've been reading all the "glowing" reviews, and from what I gather the movie is all eye candy and little else. If this movie was made by anybody else but James Cameron the movie would be laughed out of the theater. I am afraid however the movie will still make lots of money only because it's a James Cameron film and no other reason.

Fuck politics. Does shit get blowed up good or what?

And how, motherfucker. And how.

Just tell me if Cameron remembers how to do an action sequence.

Dude.

DUDE.

HOLY. FUCKING. SHIT.

*cheers wildly*

:D

I hate to say it, but as much as I'm uber-excited for the Rifftrax event tomorrow night, Cameron's first aerial battle has me even more so. He may very well be a jerkface, but Jim Cameron can forge an action-seqence like none other. Now if he can only ditch the trite & silly love hogwash, we'd really be in business.  ;)

Glad to have you back, Jim!

Having not read six pages of replies, I don't know if I repeat anything anyone else has been saying, but South Park summed Avatar up perfectly: "Dances With Smurfs."

According the advance review consensus, Avatar the Next Step Forward, after Star Wars and Titanic filled similar roles for the '80s and '90s, respectively. This means we'll see hammy, wooden acting and clumsy, cheesy plotting largely eclipsed by astounding visual effects with a five-year expiration date.

Cute obnoxious fairies cut off the heads of humans and eviscerate them in gruesome manners? I have mixed feelings about that...

Hey, we watched cute little teddy bears about to burn the franchise's heroes alive on a spit....and then we were supposed to cheer as they killed humans by crushing them with logs and making them run into trees (Return of the Jedi).

Subtle difference.

Doctor Who?

Hey I am one of those people that thinks Cameran has only ever made one good movie, but you know what as long as this movie has lots of space people shooting things in 3D I will be happy.

Are there a lot of those people? 'cause he's made more than that, surely.  Terminator and Aliens are pretty great, while Terminator 2, Abyss, and True Lies are good too.  It's the reason why I was so disappointed with Titanic, as he hadn't necessarily made a bad movie until then (we'll ignore Pirahna 2).

Doctor Who?

I think Terminator was the only one he made that was "good" the rest are either just "OK" or "I only put the DvD in the watch a few good scenes and then skip the rest of the movie" but maybe that is just me.  Still Avatar looks like it will be a fun way to spend an afternoon( I don't think I would ever buy it on Blu Ray though),and hopefull it will keep Twilight and Transformers from being the top grossing films of the year.

And yet Terminator 2 is a classic mother's day film.
