Arrrrrrr!!!! Mateys, try to keep this spoiler free for least a few days. I be doin' so!

Just got back from the 8:00 PM showing. Enjoyed it quite a bit. The fight scenes were very well done, and the final fight was quite lengthy as well. And I was able to figure out a few of the plot twists only a few moments before the characters did, which is always a good sign, writing wise.

Gripes? A bit long, although I didn't really notice until I left the theater. Plus a certain actor was in the film and they did not hand him a pistol even once, let alone hand him two. Guys, I want to see him guns ablazin' even if he's in a light romantic comedy.

The only other note is that I kept wondering, "Hmm. How will this affect the next Kingdom Hearts game?" There's a nice tie in, but I'll just have to wait to see if Square uses it.

We also just got back from the 8pm showing & absolutely loved it! Very entertaining flick.
Ya' down with O.T.T? Yeah you know me.

I really enjoyed it too because this is an action movie and the characters actually REACTED, or acted if you will to other things happening in the movie. I really enjoyed the trippy and possibly LSD inspired scenes, very creative and almost monty python-ish at times. Lots of the made up stuff didn't really make much sense but it didn't matter cuz it was really fun to have Barbossa back, as well as all manner of twists and turns and colorful(Literally) characters. I enjoyed it immensely... and PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND STAY UNTIL AFTER THE CREDITS!!!!

dignan

I thoroughly enjoyed it.  Barbossa rules.

OMG - 12:00 Midnight roles around and the audience is going WILD!!!! At the end of the show, it's 3:00 AM and the audience IS STILL GOING WILD!!!

Now, critics have pretty much blasted this movie (on MSN at least) for being style over substance, but I say NAY TO THAT, good sirs -- NAY. TO. THAT.

Pros: The movie was fast-paced even though it was long. Jack was exactly like.... well... Jack. Barbossa was the shiznit. Davy Jones just grew all the emotions and layers of a developed character. Keira Knightly gave a badass speech which was thoroughly captivating. The effects were amazing. The story twisted and turned about in a totally fun way. The final battle had me pooping squirrels. And did I mention? Captain Jack Sparrow(s)!!

Aside from the above issue, the movie is golden!!

That being said, I think Pirates is my newest favorite trilogy =)

I've been pretty vocal in my disappointment in Dead Man's Chest, so hopefully my lowered expectation will = more enjoyment from At World's End. But I'm not the only moviegoer expecting to be bored by Pirates:

From IMDb news:
QuoteCritics attending press screenings of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End were not permitted to bring cell phones -- if they included cameras -- into the theater with them. (Phil Villarreal of the Arizona Daily Star wrote that he was even ordered to return his Nintendo DS gaming device to his car.)

Hilarious. How was the movie, Phil? "It was okay. I got pretty far in Pokemon Pearl."

I was pretty bored by Dead Man's Chest too. I do think At world's end is far superior because all the action actually has a point.

pfft lol --- I thoroughly loved each movie more than the previous one!!

But as for the people who didn't like AWE: A lot of dissent is being displayed by the writers (Terry and Ted) over the deleting of scenes which they found absolutely critical to the story. These scenes explained the Flying Dutchman's curse and lots of other things.... and the writers were not happy to see them removed.

Terry and Ted's official site for discussing Pirates is here:

Good read, but TONS of spoilers. Watch the movie first.

I'm looking forward to the Jack Sparrow workout DVD - "Pilates of the Caribbean." But won't all that makeup get in his eyes if he sweats?

starfighter

Think I'll wait for the DVD. Sounds like I'll need a nap during this one.   It's almost 3 hours and the screenwriters are pissed about what was left out?
