Is there such a thing as "too awful to riff"?

This movie feels like it should have already been reviewed by The Cinema Snob.

Yeah, it does feel that way.

Though someone linked to something earlier, where Obscurus Lupa (a former Channel Awesome critic who's since left CA and is independent) was apparently going to review the movie, had reviewed another movie made by the creator and was asked to remove it by the guy; claiming copyright over the footage. Though she's under no obligation to do so (Fair Use) she did anyway.  I wonder if this is why Snob hasn't done it? Maybe he's done, or tried to do, the director's other stuff and was met with resistance and didn't bother with the hassle to push for his rights in the situation.

Yeah, I posted the video, though it was about the Director and his filmmaking style which ended up only in audio form, thanks to his interference.

I think Rifftrax beat everyone to the punch on this one.

That explains why I woke up on the floor with a broken nose after watching... :speechless:

From the Rifftrax preview clip on youtube: Rollergator: Because we didn't think we could get you to watch Fun in Balloon Land, either."

I can't wait to watch it. Gator sounds right up my alley (I love Red Zone Cuba, Monster a Go Go, etc)
My worry was this would be one of those semi-comedies like To Catch a Yeti or Hobgoblins. Those don't work well for riffing.

This actually did seem to me to belong in the 'attempted comedy, utter failure' category, however. And so much so that my taste being similar to losingmydignity's  it really was a fail on every possible level...except one: at least no dead cat jokes. The end of those this past year has been hugely relieving to me and because of this I now buy EVERY release, knowing I am at least not going to be disturbed by it in such a way as I can never watch it again. I will even watch Rollergator again...some day.

I might be with the OP on this one. Usually I play Riffs I've already seen before in the background while I work. Since I have a massive amount of 'em, I have a good catalogue of stuff I can keep myself entertained by, so Rifftrax is always a safe bet for that. This one, though, I think I'm gonna scrap. The riffing is funny and all, but the movie itself is distractingly obnoxious due to its horrendous sound design. The endless acoustic noodling that drowns out all the echo-ey dialogue besides the dubbed-in dialogue for the gator, who speaks in an obnoxious nose-whine reminiscent of the sounds one makes while forcing out a hellacious dump... The movie's just all in all an unpleasant experience for the ears. Not something I'd ever want playing while I concentrate on anything.

Which kinda sucks, because I'm still riding high on how much I enjoyed the Magic Sword riff, and I usually have a love for trainwreck-level bad movies, so Rollergator should've been right up my alley. Turns out I do have a limit, and Rollergator found it...

The attempted, but failed, comedies are often my favorites. Hobgoblins is one of my alltime favorite MST3K episodes (and I find the movie itself hilariously bad). I still need to see Rollorgator, but I will give it a shot. I will say, though, that bad sound does a lot to prevent me from being able to get into a movie or riff. SO hopefully that doesn't kill it too much for me.

It would be an interesting test to see if someone could somehow make it worse that's for sure

I don't know about that.  He's one of the better reviewers on the site.

To overcome the sound issues you have to ignore your every instinct and turn the volume up. There IS a comfortable volume where you can pretty easily make out the dialogue. The jury is out on whether that makes it better or not.

Being the best of a collection of awful, shrieking, nerd-raging idiots is a long way from good to me.

I dunno about that...it's the logic I use to self-affirm my ego here on the forum.  :highfive:

Well, somehow, the second half WAS better than the first half, as someone else here stated.  But, it wasn't easy.  That's one slow, draggy-ass movie!  Still, I enjoyed it.

In reply to the original question, I would nominate the CGI animated film Food Fight. Ironically starring Charlie Sheen in the lead voice role. Ugly animation, a terribly boring plot, casual racial and ethnic stereotypes,  and a director who seems literally to hate the audience.  Seriously it feels like 80 minutes of the director teabagging your paralyzed form. Someone stole the finished film just before release as a humanitarian gesture, which accounts for the poor animation quality.
