Well the earlier stories were about Sony wanting to do a "shared universe" thing with Ghostbusters. But that didn't mean those other movies were actually in major preproduction. Most likely they will wait to see how this new one does at the box office and then jump on the others if it's successful and popular with the public.
Personally I think the idea of a shared universe type thing with Ghostbusters makes NO sense. The whole point of the Marvel movies (and the Universal monster movies way back when) was that it was interesting to see different characters with different abilities interact. But male of female, all the Ghostbusters are people in the same colored jumpsuits with the same proton packs. The only way they could make it interesting is if they had Ghostbusters interacting with other type of paranormal fighters. Maybe people who actually used magic instead of technology to fight ghosts and monsters.

Uh, all Slimers team. It will be the next Minions.
FINE

The Lurker

They kind of did that with the Extreme Ghostbusters and had the two teams meet up.  And IDW had The Real Ghostbusters and the movie ones meet up.

Rod and Todd tell me that all the time too.

That was friggin' awesome! And you know what's also great? If there's any spirits haunting the hallways or any Demons that need exorcising, they're already there! I'll take the Ghostbusters over Father Merrin any day.

Bill Murray could show up in the Ghostbusters reboot and further confuse fans trying to form allegiances!

Scorecard:

Dan Aykroyd - In It
Bill Murray - In it
Harold Ramis - Can't be in it.
Ernie Hudson - Reportedly waiting for that phone call...

There is no excuse they shouldn't at least try to get Ernie Hudson to appear in the movie. Oh, what about Annie Potts?

Darth Geek

Yeah, Annie Potts is great, I'd like to see her again. And I'd at least like to see them try to get Rick Moranis to do a cameo.

It does seem weird that Murray would delay it for soooo long and then agree to it. I wonder if that means they rote a really funny character for him to be in his cameo, so he's not just Venkman, or somebody on the street.

Or maybe he trust's the current team to be funnier than the team that was putting together GB3 (The Year One writers were attached)
