Its best to keep your expectations low.  No way this movie even comes close to the original.  This is a cash grab, plain and simple.  Thats the reason for the all women gimmick.  It will be forgotten about six months after its release, just like the Total Recall and Robocop remakes.

I will remain cautiously optimistic. I really hope you're wrong about the cash grab thing. I doubt these women would come aboard for this movie if it was nothing more than that.

Because nothing sells tickets like all-female casts. If you want to make money in show business, either you're Brad Pitt or a female comedian, as the old adage goes. Totall cash grab.

But the much easier and quicker buck would be to use the original cast, and if not that then another male cast. No one was asking for an all female cast, and I'm sure the creators were expecting a lot of people to hate the idea. Someone made that choice and fought for it because it's what they wanted to do.

Not to say it'll be any good. Maybe it will, maybe it won't. I don't care for any of the chosen actresses. But it really doesn't feel like a decision based on money, especially considering how hostile nerds on the internet (Ghostbuster's core audience) get toward women.

They cant use the original cast, so that is out.  Using an all male team would not necessarily be easier because of the reputation remakes are getting due to sub par movies like the a fore mentioned Robocop and Total Recall.  Using all women doesnt sound like so bad of an idea when the very premise will draw a lot of publicity and when it does flop the studio can always make excuses that internet haters caused it to.

Yes, but even that amount of thought by business executives puts it one step above "lazy remake".

Ultimately you are correct in that it is best to lower expectations. Softening the blow if it sucks, and actually managing to impress if it is good.
