A Word to the Wives
Short film · 2015

Bridget and Mary Jo witness a 1950s housewife and her scheming neighbor trick a husband into buying a new kitchen—complete with a refrigerator that makes "ice circles."

With Mary Jo Pehl, Bridget Nelson

Riffing together again for the first second time in world history! Bridget Nelson and Mary Jo Pehl bring you... A WORD TO THE WIVES

Bridget and Mary Jo get a few pointers in this "how to" film from the 50s about getting a new kitchen. Jane and her new dark-haired schemer neighbor without a name come up with a plan to trick Jane's husband into a brand-new kitchen, complete new appliances so they can have more time to go shopping. In their panting greed for a new refrigerator that makes ice circles (we don't know what those are either) and with poor hapless Jane as a pawn in her neighbor's sinister plan, poor Husband George never knew what hit him. In a bloody, horrifying twist of events they get their new kitchen - and a little more than they bargained for. Tune in and see the new kitchen for yourself - if you dare!

Now that Cinematic Titanic has run it's course, can we look forward to any more collaborations with former MST3K cast members? I love Mary Jo and Bridget. It's downright criminal that Bridget never riffed on MST3K. She's certainly good at it (if you haven't bought the riff for "Next" yet, do it).

I'd love to see a riff, any riff, with Trace and Bill.

This short was so ridiculous, and the riffing was fantastic.

So, I guess kitchen remodeling was impossible until recently, to get a new kitchen you had to buy a whole new house....

Kitchen remodeling has ALWAYS been possible.  They were just trying to get people to buy houses.  Did you notice, the "poor" woman lived in a 5 bedroom luxury home?  It's not as if she was living in a dump.

Also, Mr. Snob took Mr. Swamped into the basement and showed him his new "gas trash disposal." In short, an in-home incinerator!!  I bet the neighbors would love that.

I had never heard of those either, doing some searching I found some in old appliance catalogs, so they were sold in the 50s, hooked into the furnace flue.  Most of the ads talk about not needing to mess with back yard burning of your garbage.

I know, really  :D I actually had to back the video up to make sure I didn't just hallucinate that. But, to be fair, these are the same people who thought Dry Cleaning with gasoline was a good idea.

One of the best shorts in a long time.  Maybe hearing new voices was key.   I really wish they would pump out more RiffTrax Presents in general.

Bridget and Mary Jo are awesome together! So much fun listening to these two ladies of Rifftrax take on these old shorts. If you could get Beez McKeever in on it that'd make the perfect trifecta!
