Just a brief, spoiler-free note after getting back from seeing the movie: I'll spoiler it anyway. as while I don't reveal any plot points, it might detract from your viewing experience.

Other than that, pretty enjoyable. Not spectacular, but easily worth the time and money spent at the theater. And Bruce kills even more than usual.

Short answer: No actor, not even Tobey Maguire can emote particularly well through the Spidey mask. That's why he keeps taking it off,  getting an eye torn off the mask, etc. It's that simple.

I'm in two minds about bothering to see this. Sure, it has Venom and Bruce Campbell but part of me just thinks: "Is any film really worth a quarter of a billion dollars?"

Well, no, but it should probably only cost you ten bucks at the most.

Give it a couple of years...  ;)

K guys -- saw it at midnight this morning and still have sleep in my eyes.... but even so

AWESOME. AWE - SOME. AWESOME.

Why? I dunno! It's Sam Raimi doing a Spiderman movie in the most Sam Raimi possible way -- in other words, it felt almost like I was in Evil Dead's universe but with costumed super heroes!

Now -- I really didn't liek the previous two movies all that much, and never understood why they were so popular, but this one just felt special! It's both goofy and serious, fun and dramatic, action-packed and emotional and it leaves you entertained throughout the entire two-point-five hours!

Topher plays a fantastic Venom. I was really apprehensive about him in the role at first -- but as soon as he appeared on screen, you could tell he fit the part perfectly. Toby and Kirsten were great, dealing with not-so-standard stumbling stones in an infant relationship, and still coming off believably (for a Sam raimi movie hehe). Franco was actually a highlight of this film, and almost stole the show! And the effects were fantastic.... I was awe-struck by the Sandman and Venom everytime I saw them!

So -- if you want to enjoy a really fun movie with lots of laughs, action and goofiness, juxtaposed with captive emotion, drama, and theme, CHECK THIS MOVIE OUT!!!!!

Phantom of Krankor

Okay, I just got back from seeing it and I thought it was great! However, I will agree that it wasn't quite as good as the second movie. It simply had way too much stuff crammed into it. I think it would've worked better if it were fleshed out into two movies. Here's how I think it should've worked:

Third Movie:
*Have the whole sandman plot line and maybe show more of his character.
*Have the Gwen Stacy plot line.
*Confrontation between Harry and Peter.
*Black suit plot line
*Only introduce Venom

Fourth Movie:
*Have Venom be the primary villain and more screen time.
*Maybe have Dr. Connors become The Lizard
*The union between Harry and Peter
*The demise of Venom
*Peter marries MJ

One thing that really dissapointed me, was the finale. What happened to Spiderman swinging off triumphantly into the sunset like in the last movies? It really dissapointed me that all it ended with was just Peter dancing with MJ.

But on a positive note, the action was great, the SFX were amazing. The sandman was an incredible work of CGI. Wow. I also liked what they did with Venom, even with his minimal screen time. I also thought the acting was still great also.

BTW, was the film a little fuzzy to anyone else? I think it was just my theater that was the problem, but the film seemed really fuzzy.
I am Ambassador Phantom, from the planet Krankor! I am rapidly approaching your planet... in the warship, which you have just seen. I will arrive tomorrow night at precisely eight o'clock. At that time I shall make my wishes known to you. You will obey them... or die! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

It did feel a lot like two movies strung together - not unlike one of those MST movies made from two TV episodes cobbled together - but it doesn't feel all that forced to me. I think they wanted to settle a few things while they still had the core cast together, thus the overstuffed feeling.

Well, I think they wanted to go out on a Peter/MJ moment, since that's what these movies are really about - a young couple, one of which just happens to be a superhero.

Tell the manager they should either check the shutter phasing or the lens focus.  At least bloody clean the thing ;)

I just got back from a screening, and I've gotta tell ya', it was definitely worth the money (both mine and the studio's - you know they're going to make it back).  It was fun, and its heart was in the right place.  To me, I don't think you can ask anything else from a Spider-Man movie.  When I want grittiness, I look to Batman.  But I sure as hell ain't hankerin' to see The Dark Night of the Soul of Spidey.  For the first time in a long time, I've walked out of the the theater feeling GOOD about myself and the film I just saw.  I can't remember the last time that happened to me for a movie that WASN'T a comedy.

Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

I know! He hasn't been this likable since Freaks & Geeks. Whodathunk?

Oh man, no this movie was not warm and fuzzy, it was a video game with too many plot holes.  There were scenes that you could clearly tell were just live-action gaming sequences that would get people hyped for the Venom game.  And it was like everybody and their DAD got a bit part - even the extras were bad. The writing had none of the polish the early Ditko/Lee stuff did - I'm sorry, it was an over-saturated, bizarre experience.

I liked this one better than part 2, but I didn't love it.  I thought that the Eddie Brock character (not Topher, but the character) was a little too irritating and pathetic.  My biggest problem with the film was that Mary Jane was in way too much of it.  To me all the angst between her and Peter was pretty trite.  Awesome fights and effects and a fun story though.  There were a couple of aspects to Venom I wasn't too fond of, but he turned out more well done than I had anticpated.  Bruce Campbell was the best part of the movie.

Good, but not as good as Ghost Rider.

Did you just call Stan Lee's writing polished? I love him but if Stan wrote the movie Spidey would be swinging around constantly telling us what he's doing. "Now I'll shoot some web blobs at Sandman... Drat! They went right through him! Really need to use the old noggin this time, Peter."
