The writing had none of the polish the early Ditko/Lee stuff did - I'm sorry, it was an over-saturated, bizarre experience.

Did you just call Stan Lee's writing polished? I love him but if Stan wrote the movie Spidey would be swinging around constantly telling us what he's doing. "Now I'll shoot some web blobs at Sandman... Drat! They went right through him! Really need to use the old noggin this time, Peter."

Hah I know! I love camp, but I guess I was referencing the Flash guy story line they wrote.  It was a weird adjective, I was tired.  :)

I love Stan's work - he's probably the writer who's most influenced me in life - and I'd say he's responsible for more American mythology than anyone in any medium, but his actual writing is groan-inducing. Now that I think about it, Spider-Man was very Stan Lee in its over-the-top bombasticity and overwrough melodrama. I'm sure he loves it, especially his cameo.

All I have to say is I'm looking forward to this movie being riffed.  It's practically begging for it.

So much hate for Spidey. I will say, as a huge Spider-Man comic fan, the first half of this movie pissed me off...and the Sandman/Uncle Ben nonsense...but the second half was really good. Once he started being all bad-ass and stuff it picked up. I wish it had been better...at this point, I'm thinking that Spider-Man 2 might be my favorite.

Speaking of which, has anyone ever seen the spoofs done on X-Play of Stan Lee?  Hilarious....

KingOfShippers

Ah you mean Roger the Stan Lee Experience, I found them okay at first but after a while they got annoying.

Wow.  This had to be the most disappointing movie I've seen in some time.  There were some good moments, but there were several points where I seriously thought to myself, "This movie will never end."  I wasn't a fan of the first movie, thought the second one was excellent.  Definitely thought this was a giant step back.  Yeah, I didn't like it at all, really.

KingOfShippers

I found this movie to be rather average no wear near as good as two was, none of the characters were handled correctly in my opinion Venom included, i found it be rather a let-down.

Variety of Cells

I thought the first half of 3 was a lot worse than 2 and 1 as a whole.  But the first half of 2 and the second quarter of 1 were not nearly as good as the fifth and seventh eighth of 3.

SaucyRossy

I saw it today and I must say I was not really too dissapointed, I was told by all of my friends who had seen it that I probably wouldn't like it all that much but I really enjoyed it.

It's a Spider-Man movie you shouldn't expect Oscar winning performances, no but everything I want and expect from a Spidey movie was there.
My only complaint was Venom felt very rushed...

Isn't Venom still technically alive?  Kurt Connors still has that sample of the symbiote...

I'm sticking with with comic book rules: no Eddie corpse + undefined alien symbiote = easy to resurrect

Well, the symbiote might be the cause of the Lizard's appearance in the 4th movie.

Possibly, but I don't see any reason to stray from the classic origin of the Lizard. Simple hubris is much better than mysterious alien ooze.

And everybody screaming "CARNAGE!" can kiss my shiny metal ass. A Carnage movie would the Batman & Robin of the Spider-Man franchise.

That's been done in the first and second movies, though.  I would worry about repetition.
