Well, my viewpoint is that whether I find a movie to be good or bad usually doesn't have a direct relation on it's entertainment value. My main example would be Commando. It's a horrid movie by just about any critical standard, but it's a damn entertaining watch.

I love both Clash of the Titans and Alien 3.  I don't consider either of them to be bad movies, but most people seem to disagree with me.  Anyone else love either of these movies?

I like the entire Alien franchise...probably one of the only action movies with a credible woman hero (read as: NOT an effective warrior because of her innate ability to conquer evil with her DDs).

The only think I don't love about these movies is that they give me nightmares if I watch them before bed.

Boobs remove credibility?  By comparison are there many 'credible' (plain looking) male heroes?

- how I read any complaint about MST3k (or Star Wars or Ghostbusters)

I actually really like Independence Day *blush*

It's a really fun movie to watch on a rainy day!!

boobs don't remove credibility but when the shero's strength/courage/ability to lead is overshadowed by sex-appeal, it tends to grate on my soul just a bit.

as for you second question, the answer is most definitely yes. He is known as "the everyman" and he does not need to be overtly strong or sexy to be credible.

Yup, (despite ID4's many faults) one of my favorite action movies as well

Best thing about ID4>>

Being in production, and having worked in a production environment all throughout college, I've had to learn how to use all sorts of different platforms and OSes. I've experienced the trauma of trying to get AVI files from a PC to a MAC. I've wallowed in the sorrows of failed attempts to transfer ProTools projects over to After Effects timelines. I've endured the painful jogging from lab to lab trying to get an Adobe Encore project to be compatible cross-platform in order to meet deadline. I've leapt through the hurdles of trying to get external USB drives to work cross platform as well. Hell, I've even had a hard time simply logging in to the G4 labs.

But in Independence Day there is hope..... Sit that laptop on the dashboard of your alien craft, send a virus through your machine directly into the alien network (that you were automatically connected to free of hassle), and zap-bang! The entire alien race is crippled!

But he does to get cast in the first place

well he's not going to be a dog-face or anything but I don't think he needs to look like a chisled-from-marble Olympian or anything.

I like you, Nunyerbiz; you're a funny guy. That's why I'm going to kill you last.

There's no way they could have stopped the aliens with a PowerBook; that would imply that the aliens made it all the way to Earth on OS X.  :)
