Does anyone here listen to the James Bonding podcast?  Check it out if you haven't heard it.  It's pretty great for anyone into Bond as much as you guys seem to be.

I love the strings on You Only Live Twice.  I love Goldfinger, but I think most of that is probably nostalgia.  Whenever I put it on, my three year old says, "I love this song...wah waaah wah".

I think I'm the only person that likes Another Way To Die (Quantum of Solace).  I'm a Jack White apologist.

I've also got a big thing for Tom Jones.  I think it stems from the appearances of Dweezil and Ahmet Zappa on the first few months of Conan.  That said, Johnny Cash did a crazy awesome version of Thunderball.

Yeah, I think Matt and Matt were waaaaaaaay too harsh on Another Way to Die

I still can't believe Quentin hasn't used Johnny Cash's Thunderball yet.

Yes, this was very impactful on my 14 year old mind. Go to 5:15

When I was about 23, my friends and I went to a Tom Jones concert.  It was one of the best shows I ever went to.  It was insane!  A bunch of old ladies freaking out and throwing underwear.  One of my friends would do the Carlton, and the ladies around us screamed.  It was great.

Goldfinger and Thunderball are pretty great, but I always felt that they oversold the villains.  Goldfinger feels like the villain should be a master of seduction, but he's a tubby guy who gets pissy about losing in his first scene.  He's not an awful villain, but the one the song posits feels so much better.  Thunderball too: I get it's about a guy who is willing to take outrageous gambles for big gain and greed, possibly being a guy who's behavior could take Bond off guard.  And while he's not bad, he's kind of a guy with an eyepatch.

I think Thunderball is about Bond, not the villain.

I agree, but in the movie Thunderball is the operation.  I love how the song writers seem to know nothing about the movie other than the title, and they try to personify it.  It adds to the charm.

It is awesome, but it seems inappropriate for a Bond theme, though.  If there was a Bond western, it would be pretty darn awesome.  The femme fatale: Saddle Soar!  No, wait, let me rethink that.

If Thunderball (the other one) is about Bond, that's alright I guess, but it feel like it is more about the villain (it certainly has a tone to it that seems bad guy appropriate).  Even if it isn't, I still have this much more interesting aggressive villain who strikes before anyone knows what's going on.  No toying with Bond, it's smash, grab and kill anyone who gets in the way.

Kete

Yes, the song is very out of place.

A Bond Western is something I've wished for for a while.

Isn't that kind of what they were doing in Wild Wild West?

You're right!  Wild Wild West is everything I ever wanted in a movie!

I actually don't mind that movie too much.  I like steampunk and SciFi Westerns.

It's *this* close to being a guilty pleasure for me.

I am still trying to get some iRiff group to riff it.

Finally, a giant mechanical spider.
Great... Jon Peters strikes again.

Finally, a giant mechanical spider.
See, if in Dr. No, the villain used that instead of a tarantula (which is non-lethal) to kill bond, he would have won.

Plus, can the spider talk and be an edgy surfer? Gimme a nice schmear of surfer.
A shimmering schmear of silver surfer?

The ultimate villain.

So dynamic!
