If it was the US stopping a North Korean movie where (for example) Kim Jong killed Obama, I wonder if the projected reaction would be similar.  I'm honestly not sure how I feel about Sony pulling the movie either way but I just find the anger quite odd.

Here's a great analogy.

What if the KKK threatened theaters that were going to show "Selma"?  Would any theater dare give into their demands?  Would the film be pulled?

This is no different than the Muhamed crap a few years ago.  You can't give into this crap.
Didn't comedy central cave in when South Park tried to air their 300th episode?

Of course not. But for some reason the KKK isn't as scary as real terrorist threats.

On the flip side of things, if Sony had released the movie, and several million died in attacks on movie theaters, would it have been worth the stand?

That assumes North Korea would have done anything.  I don't think they would dare make any real attack on Americans because then they would be signing their own death warrant.  A real attack would be answered, hell, China would probably go in before we could.  NK only exists because China supports them because they like the buffer between them in South Korea.

The sad fact is that Hollywood now works at the pleasure of North Korea, and they now have veto power over American media.

And that's just sad.

Yeah, what's next? Any movie that's pro America?  Any movie where the hero is not the glorious leader?

They've been doing that for ages.  Watch what you want, and fuck them.

I don't think this has anything to do with morality or freedom of speech. Sony fears they might lose money if they get hacked. Sony has a recent history of getting hacked and losing money.

Being in the tank fiscally speaking (partly because of said hacks and partly because of just how poorly they've done business lately) isn't exactly the best excuse to just toss a $90 million movie into a hole.

Making themselves look cowardly doesn't seem like a good financial strategy.

Is that a movie-going decision you think people will make?

I fail to see how possibly preventing deaths is cowardly.
