The irony here is that this movie would probably give them different things to riff on, since it's the climactic battle, and things actually get wrapped up, finally.

I've been very openly annoyed by the "nothing blockbuster but series we've already done some of" thing... but the HP series has been the most consistently strong, only very occasionally feeling tired and overdone. It would be a shame for THIS one to not get completed after they did all those damn Twilight flicks and all 6 Star Wars and however many Star Treks and all the Spidermen and X-Men and various things that have become so tiresome as to become boring.

I love their Harry Potter riffs and I honestly hope they complete it... especially with only 1 part remaining.

Interesting. I find Harry Potter to be the single worst example of it. I watched all of one and part of two more. I think it might have even been Harry Potter that broke me of the habbit of buying ALL Rifftraxes and starting to pick and choose.

I found the reasoning frustrating because he's basically saying 'well we picked repetitive movies... so we stopped'. They picked big films for the sales, and they don't do them anymore because the VODs sell better. If it was really about the films they picked, then just pick different films. There have been lots of crappy films released to the cinemas over the years, the decision to pick almost exclusively just big super hero ones was theirs.

Whenever I see this thread or any other dealing with Harry Potter, I have to once again bring up that the last HP film is still on the very top of my riff wish list.

I want them to riff Battleship. And GI Joe. But mostly Battleship.

Exactly the title that's at the top of my list whenever I think about other options. Stealth is number 2.

Both of you are pushing for the prime example he gave of movies that don't lend themselves well to riffing?

I'm counting how he uses 'we did superhero movies with the same identical plot over and over and over again which was boring so we stopped' when the choice of movies was purely their own. We can all think of other cinematic turkeys that hit the theatres over the past few years.

Edward J Grug III

QuoteI can unequivocally state that we will never do Battleship. It's the quintessential movie we should avoid (I say all this never having seen it): full of "action" scenes of stuff blowing up, long as hell, and nobody cares about it.

You're fixating on example of something else we gave as an alternative to doing endless superhero moves. Just give your own and move on, no need to make a big deal out of it.

?

I am saying you are both fixating on a movie Conor gave as the "quintessential movie we should avoid."

The writer is telling you it is the prime example of a movie that doesn't work well because it has long drawn out action sequences with nothing to riff, and it is also an example of a film few people own so it won't justify the effort/poor release because it won't seel like one of those well-owned films.

I feel like you might be the one that needs to 'move on.'

*Sigh* Sure. I'll stop interrupting your discussion on the dubious reason given they stopped doing mp3s to talk about the merits of one particular example of alternate movies  to endless superhero of the week movies that could be riffed. As you were.

I must be going crazy.

Your response to the very specific example Conor gave of the perfect embodyment of a poor choice of movie to riff was to suggest that exact same movie and I'm interrupting your conversation by saying it's a weird choice for you to try to champion?

I have no idea why you are acting like I am attacking you.

He acknowledges that fans (big, loyal fans) want the final HP movie, but pretty much says they aren't going to do it because they've already done a lot of HP stuff already.  However, he says that in the same article in which he states that Wizard of Oz was just a random idea that they ran with, turned around, and had on sale in a couple of weeks.

They choose and pump out the money-making VOD's all year for the casual fans because they make a shitload of money, but don't have any interest in taking a little time to quickly knock out a movie that their biggest fans are asking for.  Seems rather dismissive to me.

I prefer the VODs. I haven't watched a single Hairy Rotter movie yet, riffed or not.  I don't consider myself a casual fan: Been watching since 1989. MST Info Club number was 5.ooo and something.   Donated almost  almost $4,000 bucks to the kickstarter this year. I'm not some rich guy with money to toss around. I used plastic to make that donation.

I own every VOD and short, and most of the mp3 riffs.  Only skipped out on stuff I can't bring myself to watch, such as  seals Potter and Twilight and a couple others.

But, I certainly understand why fans would want to watch a riff of the final movie in a series. I would have been very upset if they skipped the final episode of Batman vs the Wizard.  So, I have no argument or disagreement with anyone wanting to see the final Runny Snotter movie.  I hope they do eventually riff it, for the sake of the fans that have been watching the series.

But, that has nothing to do with how big or loyal a fan anyone may be.   How can one conclude that "casual" fans prefer VODs, while the "biggest" fans prefer mp3 riffs? My fanhood is a large as anyone's. So is my schwartz.

I don't know how much money they make. I hope they are making gazillions of dollars, but I doubt it.  They needed a kickstarter to get the 2 live shows done this year.  Whoever makes the Hoary Blighter movies doesn't need a kickstarter, because they really are making shitloads of money.

A little time to knock out a riff?  That's relative. Kevin said somewhere that it takes about 40 hours to write 20 minutes of material.

These people are running a business, and trying to make some dough. They sell what sells.  Though, again, I do hope they change their minds and do the final Trippy Blotter movie, for the sake of those that bought all the other riffs of that franchise.

Friend, I'm broad-minded; I've been around people.  But, don't ever let another Texan hear you say that! Texas, a mere speck!  In other words, Don't call me a casual fan.  8)
