How come there aren't any riffs of animated movies?  :(

Do you suppose Mike Nelson, Bill Crobett and Kevin Murphy don't riff on animated movies?

MartyS (Gromit)

There are a number of animated shorts that they have done, so they are not against riffing animation.
I'm guessing there is not a lot of full length animation in the public domain?
Also a lot of animated movies are comedies or at least somewhat "comedic", so there's another reason.

What about riffing on Disney Animated Movies and/or certain Anime-themed movies?

Darth Geek

Beowulf is the only one I can think of. Cinester Theater did Frozen. And there is an iRiff of Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

MartyS (Gromit)

Forgot about Beowulf.  But since MP3 riffs are pretty rare now it's really unlikely they would do another one like that.

Still, you do think it's likely that Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy will ever do riffs based on animated movies, anime movies or stuff like that?

They haven't seemed too interested so far. And MartyS makes a good point, most animated movies are to some extent or another comedies.

It's not outside the realm of possibility, but it's not terribly likely.

The crew tends to grab stuff that are either cheap to license or public domain these days. A lot of the animated films from the major studios are neither. It's not inconceivable that they might riff something along the lines of the animated Titanic movies or those knock off "Karate Panda" films that show up from time to time. But it's unlikely.

Oh, and FYI, Mike did riff "Nestor the Christmas Donkey" a few years back as well. Pretty sure that Rankin & Bass counts as animated too.

And another FYI, given the relationship that Rifftrax and Sony have recently, it's not out of the realm of possibility to see a live riffing of "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within." Although Square Enix might have veto power on that one. And I suspect they'd have kittens.

Every Disney riff I can recall, even back to the MST days, involved getting sued. They seem to consider Disney a litigious company.  I wouldn't count on them doing Disney.

Can't sue them for an MP3 riff though.

Having said that, I don't thinkt here are many, or even any?, good choices for riffing in the Disney catalogue. (I don't really enjoy riffs of good movies, and also agree that riffing failed comedies doesn't really work...)

Oh... Maaaybe The Black Cauldren I guess...

A brief counterpoint. Oh, and Pirates was Disney too.

In my opinion, Disney doesn't make good movies- at least not since Walt died. Their movies are, without exception, suck burgers, loaded with suck, with a large side order of suck, served on a plate of suck, with a super-size glass of suck. Oh, and suckberry pie for afters.  Now, don't get me wrong, I hate Disney. :rimshot:
