Hmm.. I was unaware of this, but of course I haven't lived in Buffalo since 1977 so I'm really out of the loop :o

But yeah I think I like Pegula has my vote of confidence for the Bills owner as well ;D

KidFlash

Golisano's specifically said he would bid on the Bills only if they were in danger of leaving town, so he's the guy you get if Pegula was uninterested. And since it was just discovered that TP was a long-time Bills season ticket holder with more ties to the area beyond his wife growing up in Rochester, it seems very unlikely that he wouldn't have been at least intrigued.

Of course, when Pegula bought the Sabres in February 2011, one of the first questions he fielded was if he had any designs on the Bills. To be fair to TP, I don't think that day would've been the best to ask if he was interested in the Bills or anything beyond the Sabres themselves. Imagine if he had come in and immediately said 'I want to buy the Amerks, build something on the waterfront and the Bills when Ralphie dies.' Imagine what the reaction would've been here.

Perhaps that Bills season ticket tidbit earlier would've snuck out if TP was more comfortable in public (he's really not) and the Buffalo News were more level-headed in their reporting (negativity sells in Buffalo!).

Jerry Jones' racy pics part of 'sextortion plot'

Racy photographs allegedly of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, in sexually suggestive poses with young women, hit cyberspace Tuesday in an apparent extortion plot.

One image of the outspoken football executive showed him cupping the breasts of a blond woman in a restroom.

Another shot appears to show a dark-haired lovely, in the same restroom, kneeling with her cheek up against his crotch.

The tweeter, who goes by the handle INFIN8SON, posted these pictures with the caption: "Sins of Jerry Jones."

The 72-year-old head Cowboy has been married to his wife, Gene, for 51 years.

The sports gossip site TerezOwens first posted the images.

Deadspin identified the Twitter source as Dallas Cowboys and Mavericks groupie Frank Hoover, who claims he got the pictures from others who had planned to extort Jones with the odd images.

The photos also appear in a 20-page manifesto addressed to Jones, titled "Uncovering the Truth."

In the rambling letter, Hoover alleges he got the photos from a group of people who conspired to blackmail the billionaire.

"I am the way, the truth and Jerry, you are my light," wrote Hoover, who calls himself the "Son of God."

Hoover said he had to move from Dallas to Wichita, Kansas, because unknown forces were out to kill him over his knowledge about the alleged plot against Jones.

"So I gave my own life to save yours," he wrote.

As the "Son of God," Hoover said, he was put on Earth to save Jones from danger.

However, the self-professed savior made no mention of Jones' true threat — a remarkable string of three consecutive 8-8 campaigns that have plagued the perpetually underachieving franchise.

"I know this because I am the Son of God and he sent me to you. Jerry, possession giving the rest away to charity and then living poor," Hoover wrote.

Hoover said he's been trying to reach out to Jones for years, through the owner's lawyer, Levi McCathern.

"Jerry Jones' attorney, Levi McCathern, failed his client and had the chance to prevent this by helping me," he wrote. "I asked for nothing in return except a meeting with Jerry."

McCombs: Davis' S.A. visit went well
Updated: August 7, 2014, 12:48 PM ET
ESPN.com news services

Billionaire Red McCombs told the San Antonio Express-News on Wednesday that he and his family would be interested in buying a piece of the Oakland Raiders "if that's what it would take to get them" to San Antonio.

Billionaire Red McCombs believes San Antonio has a shot to convince Mark Davis to relocate his team from Oakland and he's even willing to buy a piece of the team to make it happen.

McCombs, however, said he's not sure if Davis would seek out local investors if he were to relocate the team.

"But I told him if he wanted some, they wouldn't be hard to get," he told the newspaper.

Raiders owner Mark Davis "and two top lieutenants" met with several city officials in July about the "potential" of moving his team from Oakland to San Antonio, the Express-News reported last month. McCombs and Spurs owner Peter Holt also were at the meeting.

Davis has acknowledged the visit in a statement he released last month.

McCombs, who owned the Minnesota Vikings from 1998 until 2004, told the Express-News on Wednesday that Davis' visit couldn't "have gone better."

McCombs told the newspaper that it is his belief there is a "definite possibility there may be a relocation" and he doesn't think San Antonio is being used as a "bargaining chip."

The Raiders need a new stadium -- the current lease at O.co Coliseum expires at the conclusion of this upcoming season -- and had previously, in a roundabout way, been linked to San Antonio, Los Angeles and Portland, Oregon, as well as nearby Concord and Dublin in the East Bay.

In his statement last month, Davis specifically mentioned former San Antonio Mayor Henry Cisneros, citing him as a friend who suggested he meet with city officials. McCombs said Wednesday that Cisneros could be the key if the Raiders were to relocate to South Texas.

"Mr. Davis was impressed by Henry -- pure and simple," McCombs told the newspaper. "I don't know whether it's a long way from a deal or whatever, but at least there was an opening there and we have a leader to take charge."

McCombs acknowledged to the Express-News the odds might be against San Antonio to land the Raiders, but he believes the city has solidified itself as a contender if Davis decides to relocate the team.

"For a guy to pick up and move from a place he's been as long as he's been there, that takes a lot," McCombs told the newspaper. "It may not happen. But you got to be in the game, you've got to give yourself a chance, and that's what Henry's doing."

SHUT YER MOUTH

It's been 20-odd years and I still can't watch any of those Super Bowl highlights. I was in a local Tops the other day and they had the Super Bowl XXVII highlight film on a loop - couldn't get out of that store fast enough. ;)

My brother's the same way (about a year younger than I am, so he also has PTSD about the games). We were in a sports bar last year, and they were running the NFL Network's Missing Rings series. The '90 Bills were the team that night, and he even mentioned 'god, I still can't bleeping (you know what he actually said) watch this' once they got to Norwood's miss. We both turned away.

I'm sure had we grown up in a different city during a different era, it would've been another team giving us nightmares. Our older cousin cried over the '80 Browns and '85 Celtics, so it kinda runs in the family...

Johnny Manziel fined for gesture

Browns backup quarterback Johnny Manziel was fined $12,000 for making an obscene gesture at Washington's bench in a preseason game earlier this week, league sources tell ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Manziel extended his middle finger after a third-quarter incompletion in front of Washington's bench during Cleveland's 24-23 loss Monday night.

Manziel said at the time that he had "words exchanged" with the Redskins and that he should have been smarter.

"I felt like I did a good job of holding my composure throughout the night, and you have a lapse of judgment and slip up," said Manziel was competing with Brian Hoyer to be Cleveland's starting quarterback. Hoyer was named the starter on Wednesday.

Bob

I am thrilled that I get to go to the Rams home game (for the first time in a few years) this year.

And thrilled that there are two spots in stadium where you can buy local brews in giant 16 heavy glass bottles and they let you take the bottles back to your seat.  My brother in law and I when to a preseason game last week and as we walked around the stadium many fans just opened their mouth and stared at us.  The police in there just snickered when we walked by.  I hope no one drops theirs and makes a mess or a drunk tosses theirs and we lose the right to get the giant local brews in glass (I hate cardboard cups, it kills the tastes).

This sounds like good news :o
QuoteReport: Bon Jovi's bid close to collapsing
Posted by Mike Florio on August 22, 2014, 12:19 PM EDT
Reuters

I've tried not to reference existing Bon Jovi song or album titles when talking about his effort to purchase the Buffalo Bills.  But there could be some future song or album titles lurking in the quotes that have emerged in connection with the faltering push for the franchise.

"They're hanging on by the skin of their teeth," an unnamed source told John Kryk of the Toronto Sun.  "The bid's on life support."

The clearest objective evidence regarding the coming collapse of the attempt to buy the Bills comes from the cancellation of a Wednesday tour of Ralph Wilson Stadium.  It's part of the due diligence process for all finalists, and with the tour canceled and not expected to be rescheduled, it will be impossible for the Bon Jovi bid to be accepted.

Kryk also explains that Bon Jovi would have been the controlling owner, which can be accomplished only if he purchases at least 30 percent of the team.  To keep Bon Jovi's 30-percent stake within the range of what he can afford, however, the total bid wasn't as competitive as it could have been.  And without adequate assurances that the team won't move, Bon Jovi will have to wait for the next opportunity.
