Wes Welker suspended four games for PED use
NFL

Wes Welker won't be available for the start of the season, but it has nothing to do with the concussion he recently suffered.

NFL Media's Albert Breer reports that Welker has been suspended four games for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy, according to sources. Welker's appeal happened two weeks ago and parties were notified today that he lost the appeal.
:o

Bob

Good timing for his concusion then.....

For the past decade, all per game shows suck.  They do nothing but gossip share like a bad TV talk show.

Pretty interesting Week 1 so far..

Patriots fall to the Dolphins

Bills win in OT over da Bears

And watched an impressive Saints @ Falcons game :o

RVR II

Dolphins, Jets, & Bills won today!
For the first time in the Tom Brady era, the New England Patriots are in last place in the AFC East! LOL!! :D

MartyS (Gromit)

I was surprised I couldn't hear the boos coming from the stadium while I was driving by it just before half time, when the Eagles were down 17 nothing.  Get in the car to come home and find out they won 34-17.  34 points in the second half, those must have been some great half time speeches in the Eagles locker room...

Can't see any of the field from I-95 any more, used to be able to catch a few glimpses of it when driving by, now they have enclosed the last open section to add more seats.

And the Panthers hold off the Bucs in Tampa 8)

And the Cowchips lose handily to the 49ers in the D  ;D

A nice 1st week IMO

Ortega

Its days like today that make me hate fantasy football.  Jimmy Graham does nothing, and Mark Ingram and Matt Ryan sit on my Bench and drop 20 and 35 points respectively.

And to add insult to injury, the Saints crap the bed and lose on OT.

At least Peyton squeeked out a win againts the Colts just now.

Football is back, and i love it! ;)

QuoteRavens release running back Ray Rice after video emerges
September 8, 2014, 2:23 PM EDT
NBC

That didn't take long.

After months of backing, it only took a few hours of backlash from the video of Ray Rice punching his wife in the face for them to draw the line.

The Ravens announced they had terminated the contract of the star running back, who still had one game of suspension left.

That became a moot point this morning, when Rice's pariah status was cemented by the video of him punching his wife in the elevator.

We knew she was unconscious when she left the elevator already, but the video was a visceral and evocative image, one the Ravens have finally chosen to step away from.

Ray Rice released by Ravens, indefinitely suspended

    Around The NFL

The Baltimore Ravens announced the release of Ray Rice on Monday.

Shortly after, an NFL spokesperson announced that the running back has been suspended indefinitely.

A video emerged on TMZ of Rice punching his now-wife in an elevator. Rice was previously suspended two games on July 24 for violating the league's personal conduct policy for the same incident.

The Ravens supported Rice as an organization in the immediate aftermath of the incident back in March, but the release of this video changed their stance. The NFL said Monday that they had not seen the video during their investigation.

"We requested from law enforcement any and all information about the incident, including the video from inside the elevator. That video was not made available to us and no one in our office has seen it until today," the league said in a statement released to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.Since Rice's suspension, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced sweeping changes to the personal conduct policy concerning domestic violence cases. Violations regarding assault, battery, domestic violence or sexual assault that involve physical force "will be subject to a suspension without pay of six games for a first offense." A second offense will result in banishment from the NFL for at least one year.

Goodell expressed regret about the league's handling of Rice's suspension in a letter to NFL owners on Aug. 28.

"My disciplinary decision led the public to question our sincerity, our commitment, and whether we understood the toll that domestic violence inflicts on so many families," Goodell wrote. "I take responsibility both for the decision and for ensuring that our actions in the future properly reflect our values. I didn't get it right. Simply put, we have to do better. And we will."

Rice was entering his seventh season in Baltimore, including the last five years as a starter. He was a three-time Pro Bowl selection who signed a five-year, $40 million contract extension in July 2012. Bernard Pierce and Justin Forsett are next on the Ravens' depth chart at running back, but this decision was not about football.

Look, i'm not advocating domestic abuse of any kind, but i think its a bit disingenuous that even after arbitration and an official judgement being passed, they decided to go back a reverse a decision.  Even if they changed their domestic abuse policy, it happened after the Rice ban had been passed down.  The worst thing is that the full release and ban was simply Goddell and the NFL buckling under the pressure from the media and public outrage.  I think its complete BS that they said they hadn't seen the video before thier judgement.  Simply put, the video was released to the public, and the volume of outrage was more than what Goddell wanted to hear.  I'm not saying that Ray Rice didn't deserved exactly what he got, but backpedaling and flip-flopping judgements and decisions sort of diminishes the authority of his Commission

If this is the case( that judgements and bans can be overturned, reversed, or increased long after the sentence is underway), if the Players union and the league rework their drug policy soon, then by this precedent, they should overturn Josh Gordon's year-long ban or Welker's four-game ban.

Bob

If the nfl had seen the video and it had been released to all months ago, why was it JUST seen now?  That does not make sense.
