Tried taking some more video with my point and shoot camera, after adjusting some settings and bringing in a few hundred watts of lights I got some video that was somewhat acceptable, at least it gives you an idea of what it looks like in action:

I think I'm finally done with it, nacelles are glued on, clear coat applied to make the decals look like paint.

Probably the last batch of pictures:

It really looks quite amazing. Great work.

Thanks, I spent way more hours and money than I thought I would on it (supplies at the hobby shop ended up costing almost as much as the model kits), but I've wanted a really nice model of the Enterprise since the early 70s when I built a lot of Star Trek models as a little kid.

:D This is great.  I spend all day setting up and using lights that use 1,000 watts on the small end, and 18,000 watts on the big end.  So to hear you say 'a few hundred watts' as if it's a huge amount of light makes me smile.

Looks great though!  I admire the patience and dexterity that went into it.  Very cool.

You're a lighting guy for film/television? That's my guess.

No, he works at Lowe's in the home lighting department.

You're correct.

After reading some posts on the hobbytalk forum I had an idea to make the bussard motors more quiet.
It worked way better than I thought it would, there is still some noise so I won't be running the motors that much, but now they are quiet enough to be drowned out by the radio.

I noticed the motors themselves were very quiet, but when installed the vibration was causing the model to act like a sounding board and noise would come from all over the ship.  So I made some parts to be able to attach the motor with rubber tubing, so much less vibration is transferred to the model.

Pictures of the adapter:

Video showing the big drop in noise level:

(I love the fact that they have to post "model shown for scale"... since obviously a number of people would expect that she would come with it. ::))

Doesn't somebody have the original prop and his door? I thought I heard it was either Harrison Ford or George Lucas, but I can't remember.

I wonder if the $7000 price tag for Han in Carbonite includes shipping?  ;D

I guess if you can afford $7000 you can afford an extra few hundred for shipping....
