Not TV's Frank

So I'm new here, sorta.  I registered last night and started posting, but I have been a fan of RiffTrax from day one and MST3K since... '97?  '98?  A long damn time ago, apparently.  I've even got some dusty Film Crew DVDs in the stash - dusty because they are convenient to stream.  I have no idea why I took me so very many years to sign up over here.

I was late to the party in part because I grew up without cable.  Somewhere during college when I moved someplace with a TV, I got hooked. I've been a fan of riffing and those who riff ever since.  I've really been enjoying the VOD recently because they often target older movies, which tend to be my favorites.  I hope to do some good research and find a few lost gems to suggest for future riffs.  I'd probably crap myself if I managed to get a movie picked.

Also, it's my dream to do some riffing of my own.  If anybody needs a collaborator that they never met or heard crack a joke, you know who to call.   :D

Oh, yes.  My name is Frank.  Not TV's Frank, though.  Just Frank.  It's been very nice making some acquaintances already.

PS> I've done some PHP programming, so if you guys are ever in desperate need of assistance with this here PHP driven forum, drop me a line.

There are a few groups that do submission tracks. Where anyone can submit riffs for a particular movie they are going to riff and their riffs will be considered. That may be a good start to writing riffs. And eventually when you have a little experience with that you might try one of your own.

The only one I can think of right now is Hor-Riff-ic Productions is taking submissions for Phantasm.

Maybe other iRiffers can post if they currently have submission projects.

Welcome aboard Frank!  97-98?  About the same time I became a fan!

Thanks Darth Geek, I appreciate the suggestion.  I'll look into that.  I always wanted to get pledges of my fraternity to write and perform a movie's worth of riffs for me, but that seemed too cruel, even for pledges.  And here I am thinking of doing it myself.

Thank you, Johnny. I don't know about you, but I find it funny to feel like both a longtime fan - 15 or 16 years - and yet like a newbie compared to the people who were lucky enough to see the show back in the '90 or '89.  And we must seem like dusty artifacts to people just discovering the shows now... some of them weren't born when MST3K started.

Welcome aboard.  Fair warning, once you actually start riffing yourself you run the risk of getting even more addicted.

You can also actually become too cynical about movies, be careful of that or you'll lose your ability to enjoy one without a commentary track.

Thanks, RoninFox.  I appreciate the wisdom.  Where were you in 1998? :)

While watching TV or movies, I often find myself riffing - at least in my head.  My wife loves me despite the puppet show I enjoy so much, and I show her some love by keeping it to myself.  Usually.  If I watch something and I don't make fun of it, I know that I have genuinely enjoyed it on its own merits.

This is an odd sequel to American Graffiti...

...Aaaaand I just found my ideal avatar.  It's too small to read, I may PhotoShop it so it's visible.  It says "It just dawned on me how weird this film is."

Is there a trick to uploading a animated gif here?  I made an optimized version and saved a copy, but when I upload it I only get a still image.  Is there a way to get the animation without hotlinking it?  I'd rather not, as that's a bit rude of me.  I don't have a website anymore or I'd just host it myself.

It looks to me that you overcame that technical hurdle for now I see Gamera and he is spinning around and around and he is friend to children everywhere and also that he is filled with meat aaaahhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaa!

I'd like to add a new intro to my thread. I'm now also representing a very junior riffer named Michaela who was born Tuesday morning at 9:44 est. She will probably nap through her first b-movies, but as soon as she's ready, we will be watching silly movies together. I have a feeling she will like Gamera, what with all the "friend to all children" stuff.
