Speaking of moved. Begone tedious religious and tiresome political threads!

Eh. Just don't visit 'em. I seldom look in on the religion thread, and I NEVER go the politics one anymore; and I'm perfectly happy with that choice.

When I'm bored at work, I'll hit refresh on the forums. I see that happy orange "New" notice and for a microsecond think "Yay! Something entertaining!"

Then it hits. "Awww fuck. It's the religious and/or political thread. Dammit."

And then I have to kill another hobo......er...I mean....

So, this actually happened a couple weeks ago, but I'm still pretty jazzed about it:

One of my nieces (the youngest daughter of my second-oldest brother) is graduating high school this year. She wanted her father to come to the ceremony, but since he is an immature, irresponsible asshole, that possibility is pretty remote. After pledging that Laurie and I would do everything in our power to attend, I decided to initiate a Facebook conversation with my other nieces and nephews (there are a LOT) to see if I could drum up a decent-sized group to go. Now, this was literally the first time I'd had a conversation with more than one of them at a time; as I was pretty much drummed out of my family while most of them were very young (they range in age from mid-20s to 40), I wasn't sure how it would go. I'm very happy to report that I worried for nothing. It was a great, hours-long conversation, where we joked, talked about some of the moronic secrecy engaged in by my mother and siblings, and learned stuff about people on other ends of the family (some of them didn't even know about their young cousin, and I didn't know the name of my oldest brother's son). Mostly, I was struck by a couple things: One - I never had kids partly because my parents and most of my siblings made such a complete hash of it, that I was worried not doing right by them. Turns out my nieces and nephews who have kids are super-concerned with being good parents; that REALLY lifts my spirits to know, particularly because so many of them didn't do much better than I did in the having-parents department. Two - I spent decades of my life feeling like a goddamn alien (and not on account of being transgendered, something not ONE of these kids even made mention of in our long-ass conversation), because virtually no one in my family got my sense of humor or personality style AT ALL (and with six siblings, what are the odds?). With these nieces and nephews, it just clicked, in a way it never has with my siblings. When we all finally said goodnight, I felt more optimistic about my family situation than I have in many years.

And, guys? It's probably too early to call, but I think there's an outside possibility that I might be the cool aunt.

Almost posted the beginning of this story in the RRRRAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH! thread, but it looks like it might have turned around a bit already toward good news.

For the last year, I've had one goal at work, to actually get the promotion to the job I was basically already doing.  Overnight warehouse lead.  There were a long stream of excuses in the way of this.  "You're still only a temp." then "You've only been hired on recently, you need to be past 90 days." then "You don't have enough people under you to be considered a lead."

The latest obstacle is that night shift got folded into days at the beginning of the year.  It tends to happen every year because it's a slow period, and management wanted everyone to get some cross training before going back to nights in March.

We just had a meeting this week, revealing that we will not be going back to nights.  We no longer have a supervisor, as he got promoted to another department.  Also work has slowed more than expected, and we don't have the workload to support two shifts.  We've also been cut down to the minimum amount of hours, and all of the night crew are about to lose their differential pay.

I made sure to make my displeasure at the job I've been doing without recognition or raise now no longer existing known in a way that wouldn't get me fired (which was fairly difficult) and got a vague response of, "we might be able to find something for you."

Friday I talked to the supervisor that got promoted, and he instantly tried to recruit me for another department, even going as far as to call his superior with me in the room to see if the move would be possible.  After the call he told me they actually already had a specific job in mind for me, and it would be a lead position for a new section of warehouse they're about to set up.

I would still have to keep waking up in the morning, which I hate.  I've never been a morning person.  It would, however, be a bit more fulfilling actually being in charge of something.  Even if I got the night lead position I would be sharing a lot of authority with the day lead, and with less resources and interaction with management.  With this position, I could make much more meaningful decisions.

Pretty sure I passed the test to get into my local union. I passed the practical portion, just have to wait and see if I passed the written. I'll know in two weeks.

Quantum Vagina

I got a call from a bill collector today. They were asking about insurance for my ambulance ride a few weeks ago. They were looking for Cody, and apparently had NO idea I was the person they were looking for. They asked a better time to call him back, and after I told them to call tomorrow, they said thank you ma'am, and hung up. Made my day.

I see a FX TV series out of this........."Collection Justified"

Got a gifted copy of Frozen (HD) on iTunes this afternoon. Linked my iTunes account to my Disney Rewards account, got a free HD copy of The Incredibles, immediately prompted that I could pick 1 of 4 Blu Rays for free (went with Dumbo since we have Cars already and the other 2 weren't interested in). Up pops another message telling us if we enter the codes from just about any Muppet DVD or Blu ray we can have a free pass to the upcoming movie.

I just so happen to have codes from Season 2 & 3 that I never entered in. Woooooooo for free movies! (And a free future date night aside from babysitter costs!)

Something must be about to go horribly wrong because a sudden burst of good luck like that never happens to me.

So, if you all recall, I was terminated from my job back in January. I have been trying to figure out what I want to do since then (in between volunteering at the Dumb Friends League animal shelter, babysitting for some friends, and learning Spanish), and I have finally decided....

I am going to move to Florida to be with my family. I always knew I would because I ADORE my niece, but I wasn't strong enough to be around my father. He has since taken a back seat role in the family (my mom is pretty much in charge now) and she is SUPER supportive of me. In fact, she told me that when I move she will set up an apartment so I can live alone instead of living with my them (mom, dad, and sister) or my brother's family. I have already applied for a job in Florida that I would LOVE to have (and am practically perfect for).

It took a lot of thinking, but my best friend in Denver is moving, I have no job, and I am giving up on my on again/off again beau (for the better). I really think moving is the best idea....

Only problem is where I am moving too. It has been a great motivating factor for me vis a vis weight loss (who wants to be obese in Florida? UGH), but still. HOT!!!!

I will miss the mountains the most. I love seeing them. Somedays the weather is amazeballs too. Can't say I will miss the snow.
