Well it is a real word.  A bort is a low quality diamond used for industrial instead of ornamental purposes.

It's also a fun word to get in charades, though not if you're playing with fundamentalist christians.

I'm assuming it's because we wouldn't get a (presumably filthy) alternate meaning? Or are we just bad at guessing a mimed action for low quality diamond usage?
