It's nothing but negotiation tactics. The worst-performing Marvel movie with Iron Man in it did better than the best-performing Marvel movie without Iron Man, so the only question is how large a dumptruck of money Marvel will be driving up to RDJ's front gate.

Details on Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch.

-They will be British instead of European.

-Saoirse Ronan (Hanna, Lovely Bones) is who they are modeling Scarlett Witch after and she may end up playing her.

-Quicksilver will be "edgy"

I don't get what is so special about Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver that they would choose them over the HUNDREDS of others they could use, that they wouldn't have to change to avoid the X-Men connection.

I don't get what is so special about Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver that they would choose them over the HUNDREDS of others they could use, that they wouldn't have to change to avoid the X-Men connection.

Well, I'm not the biggest fan, but here are some possibilities as to why they were chosen:

1. They've been around off and on since Avengers #16, so outside of the original team, they have a lot of Avengers history.

2. They are among the first villains in the Marvel U to reform, so the idea is that there might be unease in a new team (perhaps Peter Henry Gyrich will force them on.  He has a history of shaking up the Avengers line-up with his ass-hatery.

3. Just to show how big the Marvel U is getting.

4.  To introduce spellcraft (yeah, Loki used some but he's a God.  This might be a good way to lay the groundwork for Dr. Strange).

5.  Maybe Disney is planning to get the X-Men back from Fox and Days of Future Past is going to be the last Fox X-Men film.  (Mostly just wishful thinking)

6. Quicksilver is pretty cool, though despite having the better power, I always found Scarlet Witch boring.
Peter David had a great issue that explains why he's so angry all the time.
Basically Quicksilver lives in fast forward, having to live in a world of frustratingly slow people.

I ... absolutely LOVE that, actually! As a person who walks faster than most everyone else, I am always sick of being stuck behind slow people. Especially old people.

I think the choice of those two was a little shot across Fox's bow. As if they're saying, "Yeah, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are more connected to the Avengers than X-Men, so we're using 'em. Got a problem with that, people-who-only-have-rights-to-the-X-Men-because-our-lawyers-haven't-found-a-way-out-of-those-ancient-contracts-yet?"
