Are you....countering sarcasm....with more sarcasm? Are you saying my initial opinion of this film is....incorrect?

Well, apparently someone is not amused...suppose there's a chance it could be a watchable movie, but it just hardly seems the type that requires a remake or prequel. Or sequel. But then, most movie don't deserve that.

yes, there's a chance that a Kurt Russell and John Carpenter movie might be watchable.

What film would 'deserve' a remake?

I dunno. I'm not a fan of remakes! I find 'em kind of annoying and largely unnecessary...as well as uncreative and boring. I'd rather see a new movie and plot.

See, that's usually the argument against them.  But 'Norbit' was a new movie and a... basically new plot.

I just want to watch good movies personally, original, remake, sequel, whatever.

seriously why the hell do they have to be screwing with carpenters movies there great the way they are
they need to start remaking movies that would actually benefit from a remake like
the Last Starfighter that should be remade not escape from new york

because im still holding on to the hope that carpenter will make another snake movie
Ninjas don't kill people, Pat Morita playing a ninja kills people.

well DAMN...if there was ever a case to not make a new movie, "Norbit" seals it. My main gripe is that remakes just aren't that GOOD usually. I mean look at what we've had recently.....horrible horror movie remakes. And the "Wickerman", a movie so craptacular it defies category. I've just grown cynical over the crappy movies that get all this hype nowadays and the fact that so many movies are remakes or a sequel to a film that wasn't any good in the first place. And I don't mean like...good in that artsy, deep, "everything is a symbol of how horrible life/the government is" movies cause mostly they suck too. I just wanna some kinda entertainment....mindless or otherwise.

I'm having a WAY more hostile but similar conversation about the 'Halloween' remake on some horror message boards, I've never understood the venom some people have for remakes.  Worst case is that it's bad and you've still got the original.

I'm actually looking forward to a remake of Halloween because Rob Zombie is re-making it .  I think he is the best horror director to come around in a very long time.

For the record I thought Escape From LA was great.  Seriously, I know most people hate it, but I can't get enough of it.  Here's to opinions.

For me, Remake Fever symbolizes a kind of laziness on Hollywood's part. I'm something of a Sci-Fi junkie, and it's a bit disheartening that there hasn't been like- ANY Sci-Fi that hasn't been based on a book,  movie, or comic in years. Granted, I LOVE the Sci-Fi that IS based on those things, so the remakes aren't all THAT bad, but can't Hollywood do both Remakes AND New Stuff?

You might be in luck, Pakky.  Next, starring Nicolas Cage and Jessica Biel, is based on The Golden Man by Phillip K Dick.

But how is remaking them screwing with them? the original is still the same as it was.

I can see what you are saying, but remakes can "screw" with the integrity of the original piece.  For example, star wars E1 while its not a remake, screwed with the original trilogy for many people.  Just because the original is still as it was does not necessarily mean that the memory of said movie will stay intact after a remake (or a sequel).  I think Psycho is a pretty good example of that as well, at least I know it is for me.

Regardless, I don't have anything inherently against remakes.  I've seen several I've enjoyed, but in some cases it seems pointless.  Although, it seems that torgospizza has heard that the EFNY movie is a prequel, which I'm looking forward too if thats the case.  Let's just hope it doesn't have the George Lucas touch to it.

Are there any PKD stories left that haven't been made into some sort of film? And, amzingly, besides Paycheck, they tend to turn out pretty good.

And let's not forget I Am Legend, starring Will "Welcome ta Erf!" Smith. I like to think of it as an adaptation of Richard Matheson's book rather than a remake of  The Last Man On Earth and The Omega Man.

ScottotD

I just don't see that, if anything the Star Wars prequels made me appreciate how brilliant the original movies where, the same for remakes.

I'm looking forward to 'I am Legend' too.
