Escape From New York...the remake??

I recently read an article that says that Gerard Butler (AKA The Phantom and the king on the 300) will be playing Snake Plissken in a EFNY remake.  I like Butler, but I don't much like the idea of this movie being remade.  I thought that Escape From LA was basically a remake with all the intentional parallels to the original.  According to this article The Thing is being remade as well.

I'm not one who is entirely against remakes, but I don't see the point in remaking these movies.  They are pretty darn cool as they are and, with a movie like The Thing, the special effects are already awesome.

Gerard Butler was also the Scottish comic relief in Reign Of Fire.

Yeah, Escape From New York doesn't need to be remade, but at least he seems right for the part:

You know, just as soon as they've finished remaking it, they're going to remake it again and release the second remake the year after the first. And then they're going to remake that one. And then the year after that.... :P
This iRiff will only be on sale for another few hours. Get it while it's cheap!

You CANNOT remake this low budget film.  No way.

There's a Hollywood remake in the works of the 2004 German horror comedy Night Of The Living Dorks, which was just released on DVD two or three WEEKS ago.

I'm looking forward to them recreating the part where the President's plane crashes into the World Trade Center.

This sounds just as bad as the Planet Of The Apes remake.

I could be wrong but I don't think they crash the plane into the WTC. Snake has to land his glider on top of the WTC so to give him a high enough take off point to go back.  When they announced that a new special edition of EFNY was coming out there was a nice internets rumour of editing the film to remove any shots of the WTC. I am pretty sure it got the rumour got big enough that MGM had to releases a statement about how the film was not going to be edited.

First of all, this Butler guy is a lisping douchebag.

So, I guess you are not going to join his fan club then?

I never heard of the guy until I saw he was in 300.

So Gerard Butler is Scottish?  No wonder I thought he resembled Sean Connery.  I guess he could work as Pliskin, but really I think Kurt Russel has made the character his own.

Why does Escape From New York even need a remake?  One of the greatest things about the movie is its cheesy, B-movie look, with B-movie all-stars Donald Pleasance, Ernest Borgnine, Lee Van Cleef, and Isaac Hayes!  It doesn't get any better (or worse) than that.

According to John Carpenter, it's more of a prequel and not a remake. Hate to burst all of your ' "remake-hating" bubbles.
