As someone just reminded me, this means that Leia can be one of the Disney Princesses in the next Kingdom Hearts game.

If Square Enix ever gets its act together again that is.

Bob, even if it's terrible, playing Russian Roulette is never a good reaction to things.

Good story for the police, thanks for the tip!

Could be interesting. I may not go see it in theaters right away, but I'll wait to see the reviews from you guys (rather than official "critics").

Well if I'm understanding it right, Lucasfilm will remain its own entity in the same way that Pixar, Marvel and Muppet Studios are. They can keep on doing business as they always have. It's just Disney that's fronting the bill right now.

I actually doubt they'll go with the expanded universe. As awesome as the Thrawn trilogy was (Ow! My nutsack!), I recognize that I liked it because it was the first taste of Star Wars I'd had in 10 years. It's a good enough book, but I don't think it would make a good movie.

EDIT to add Marvel to the list of Disney properties.

The more I think about this, the more I find this news absolutely horrendous.

The last thing we need is more Star Wars movies, given the kind of absolute garbage the EU has shat out. (The first person who mentions the "Thrawn trilogy" as awesome gets a fist to the nutsack--it's full of mary sues and just basic misunderstandings of English.)

And then there's Diz-nee's lawyers, who are a bunch of fucking sharks.  Say goodbye to fan-film communities. Say goodbye to really cool SW-themed art by guys like Olly Moss and Tom Whalen.

Say hello to...what? Animated Star Wars movies?   I mean, I like the Clone Wars well enough, but....jesus....disney.

Considering how freely Disney itself allows fans to distribute actual Disney audio and video from the parks (they let the fans run full torrent sites without problem... and even go so far as to PROVIDE the sites with source audio from the rides and screen video from things such as Star Tours and Captain EO) I really don't see Disney causing too many problems with fan stuff.  Most of the hassle the lawyers ever caused was Eisner-instigated, and Iger fired EVERYONE right off (including the lawyers) that Eisner had brought in.

Not to say they don't still have a harsh legal team, but they seem to focus their energy more on things that are gaining money (illegally) from their ventures.

Was it one of his that sued the preschool for having Mickey Mouse on it?

Oh I wouldn't doubt it. When was that?? It really does sound like something he would have done.  He was basically to Disney what Mike Love is to the Beach Boys.... or Lee Iacocca was to Ford (for a more accurate example)

Merged this topic with the one from the General board just to keep the conversation condensed. :^)

Yeah, I JUST tried posting that with a long rant about Eisner, but it told me the thread no longer existed. [rage!]

Anyways, to sum up my rant, Eisner (the f*cktard) is the one who said publicly that people ONLY went to the Disney parks for the FOOD (?!?) and then let all the attractions fall apart (the roof of the Tiki Room fell in!).  He also drove Roy E. Disney to not want anything to do with the company (until he was gone), and he FIRED the animation dept in the early 2000's or late 1990's.... the people who wrote and made Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Lion King, etc.... and planned to completely MERGE Pixar into Disney so that they could make the Disney movies entirely CG (thus destroying Pixar as they would have to make Disney's movies, not their own).......  Eisner pissed off Steve Jobs enough that he bought a controlling share SPECIFICALLY to oust Eisner entirely.

First thing Iger did was fire all of Eisner's people, re-hire the animation dept, state they would make some hand-drawn movies (ie The Princess and The Frog), and put in charge of the parks a guy who has been there since day 1 (he was a kid living where the Jungle Cruise now is, moved when his family sold their orange grove, got a job as a teen sweeping the park, and now he walks the park daily like Walt did.)

I hate Eisner, if you didn't guess.

I have a set of fan edits that are SO perfect, I was actually excited to watch the edit of eps 2 and 3 after I watched 1.  Those are my official versions now.

Also Iger set in motion to restoration of the parks, rides and everything.... cleaned and with newly remastered audio and brand new updated audio-animatronics that moves smoother.  He brought Roy E. back in before Roy died... and he brought back the phrase "What would Walt do?" to the company "ideal"......   He's the best thing to happen to Disney since Walt.

If you hadn't guessed, I love Iger as much as I hate Eisner.

Just to be geeky for the sake of being geeky, here's what I want.

Disney presents Star Wars Episode VII, written by Joss Whedon, directed by Brad Bird.

Yeah, most people who hate Disney as an evil corporation actually just hate Eisner. The new ownership seems to be doing an awesome job with things right now, even if we occasionally have to endure the existance of a musical based in High School, or a Chihuahua from Beverly Hills...

Seems like a nothing to lose, everything to gain situation to me - Star Wars couldn't be driven any deeper into the toilet.
