Movies set in San Francisco?

Having recently watched The Maltese Falcon it occurred to me I'd like to watch other movies set in my <smug>wonderful, perfect-climate, liberal, 420-friendly, something-for-everyone City - which, once again, has just been declared the City With America's Finest Baseball Team as well...</smug>  ;D

Can I get some help listing them so I can seek them out?

PLEASE: NO MENTIONING EITHER THE ROOM or BIRDEMIC.  They do not count, because they make a mockery of locale, having most of the film shot elsewhere, and besides, I've seen them already.  I'm looking for either good movies, or really, really bad ones which I haven't already seen.  But they have to take place here, and preferably have actually been filmed here, not just have had stock footage of the Golden Gate Bridge thrown in.

What makes you think The Room was in San Francisco?  I've seen it many times and never seen anything in the movie which would imply it being set in San Francisco.

Early 90s Mike Myers comedy So I Married an Axe Murderer is set in San Francisco.

How about The Rock, Bullit and/or the Dirty Harry films? Okay, those might not be quite the type of films you're thinking of, but they're the first to leap to mind.

48 Hours? Edtv? Foul Play? Star Trek IV? Ooh. Big Trouble in Little China. That should work.

(I'll note that while Birdemic is set elsewhere, The Birds does partly take place in Frisco.)

Precisely. :)

Omigod, I cannot believe I forgot about this, of all things, because it was filmed ON THE BLOCK of GEARY STREET, between Larkin and Polk, that I LIVED ON FOR TEN YEARS, from 1993-2003, AND EVEN on the same side of the street!

Kept telling myself, as I'd walk past the camera crews on a daily basis for at least two or three weeks, "I have got to see this movie when it comes out"...but then, since the movie was apparently fairly forgettable, and I was fairly forgettingness-prone at the time, I forgot.

But there's a chance one of the people walking up and down Geary Street at any given point in that movie may have been yours truly.

All genres count.  Thank you.

Vertigo is the San Franciso movie imo.

There is an old Clark Gable movie, I believe, called San Francisco, but if I remember correctly not much location footage if any.

Hitchcock's The Birds? No way...really?

It starts in SF, but then  moves to the smaller town besieged by birds. But it's still partly set in it.

Here you go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco_in_popular_culture

That ought to keep me busy for a while. Gracias, amigo...

I also edited the page to include some books that it ought to, but did not; on my old website, I used to have a book review page called SF in SF devoted to - as one might guess - sci-fi and fantasy stories set in San Fran.

The Birds has about as much SF in it as Birdemic does.... Don't forget that their date was in SF. The bridge is even in the background of a shot or two.

'Twould've been kind of difficult to do that as it took place in 1906 SF before and during the Great Quake. Considering how early the film was they did a fairly good job of working with what was available photographically at the time.  A classic, one of the first I ever saw.

Source, please?

I have a difficult time believing more people off themselves here, percentage-wise with regard to population figures, than say, Fresno.

What's Up Doc? was filmed and located in SF. Fantastic movie... and the source of a few MST3k riffs.
