What can be learned from "Swing Parade?"

I learned that, if you're Monogram Pictures, you can successfully shoot a musical with no plot and barely 2-1/2 songs. All you have to do is grab any players you happen to have sitting around the lot under contract:

Gale Storm
The Three Stooges
Louis Jordan
Paraplegic Singing Lady
Impossibly Annoying Sound-Effects Kid (whose name really WAS "Windy"; more on that in a minute)

Then, throw them up onto a set from an old Rogers/Astaire picture, and watch the magic.

p.s.  Fellas, be glad you live in the modern era; "Windy" was, at one time, a perfectly acceptable boys' name. Luckily, however, pop group The Association forever halted that trend back in the 60's. To wit:

What is a name to get your son beat up?
Everyone knows it's Windy.

I learned that a proven style of effective managment is to physically abuse your employees when they fail AND when they succeed.

I learned that love isn't necisarily based on physical attraction, similar interests, or personality, but an appealingly rhythmic name can spark undying passion.

Love doesn't hurt. It kills.

You're just NOW learning that? Where have you been during the last eighty years of pop music?  :)

Upon further review and rewatching, I wish to add the following gleanings.

*I have learned that if a girl threatens you with a champagne bottle, that means she likes you
*I learned that it is perfectly acceptable for a girl to threaten somebody with a champagne bottle if you suspect he has some form of potential romantic ambitions on you
*I learned that being threatened with a champagne bottle by a very agitated woman is no cause for concern or comment
*I learned that moose is the theoretical, platonic Uber-moe, the abstract ideal of Moe from which we get our concept of moe-ness.
*I learned that threat of legal punishment is no reason to stop pursuing the woman you love
*I learned that romantic comedies, or whatever you'd call this, in general, tend to have an unhealthy portrayal of male-female relationships
Love doesn't hurt. It kills.

I learned that I may be a chronic mule-worrier. It's good to know I'm not alone in my struggle.

Lemming Howard

I learned a scene with a cat getting fed is good way to get a look at Gale Storm's gams and then leaving the cat in a locked room to die.
And I'm worse than Hitler.

goflyblind

- we must all worry about mules going blind
- there are no problems that can't be solved by slapping curly
- lucille ball is incredibly violent
- the embassy club blew nearly its entire budget on neon instruments
- moose murdered a lot of people
- must... order... roast... TURKEY

but, truth be told, i'm still not sure what a swing parade actually is

I learned that once upon a time when a father learned that his son wanted to go into the theater, his only worry was that the kid might not be able to make a living....
