Cloud Atlas trailer:

I only got a couple minutes in and decided I wanted to see it, so I stopped watching.  It looks pretty ambitious.  I hope they pull it off.

WOW! the trailer still being a shot of Tom Hanks could not be less interesting to me but this looks like it might be amazing.

ROBOT CO-OP IS GAMING COMEDY

QuoteOne of the biggest surprises at Comic-Con earlier this month was Legendary Pictures' splashy debut of its reboot of the Godzilla franchise, complete with a jaw-dropping concept reel and the introduction of the film's director, Gareth Edwards. The British filmmaker, whose only previous feature directing credit is the indie thriller Monsters, wasted no time making clear his film would not be a retread of the 1998 big-budget remake of Godzilla. That movie, from writer-producer Dean Devlin and writer-director Roland Emmerich, was widely derided for being too silly and cheesy. "We're going to take it seriously," Edwards told the Comic-Con crowd of his version of the Japanese monster movie staple. "It's very grounded [and] realistic."

When EW caught up with Devlin at the Saturn Awards on Thursday night, we asked him what his thoughts were when he heard about Legendary's new take on the venerable fire-breathing, city-demolishing giant lizard. And he wasted no time making clear he agrees that no one should be attempting to follow in his Godzilla's giant footsteps. "I know I screwed up my Godzilla," he said. "I'd be very happy if they pull it off and do a great one."

That's not to say Devlin isn't harboring a twinge of professional jealousy. "I always wish I had another shot at it," he added with a wistful grin. "But, listen, Godzilla is something that I grew up loving. We worked hard to go make one. We kind of blew it. I think everyone gets one." He laughed. "I wish them nothing but the best. I would love it if the whole Godzilla franchise was revitalized for a new generation."

Besides, when he isn't overseeing the fifth season of his TNT series Leverage, Devlin is too busy working with Emmerich to revive a different sci-fi touchstone: Independence Day. Devlin confirmed earlier reports that he is back working with his old collaborator for the first time in 11 years on a sequel to their 1996 blockbuster, but cautions that there's a long journey before it gets anywhere near a greenlight. "We want to make this happen," he said. "I don't know if we can. There's a lot of moving parts. I will say from Roland's position and my position, we feel like we finally cracked it. We're excited about it and want to do it. Whether we can pull it off, I can't tell you. But we are working hard to make it happen."

Do you know that for sure? Cos it could just be like "oh, here's our old future" kind of stuff.

Nope, pure speculation.  However, if they go through the trouble of basing any part of the next movie on the specific comic books, the main selling point is the alternate timeline stuff.

My only request with the new X-Men movie: do something about White Queen! I hate the character from the comics anyway, so I would love it if they left her out completely. It's not like she's the only T&A here. But if they do keep her, definitely GET RID OF THAT GODDAMN STUPID DIAMOND SKIN BULLSHIT! That was retarded in the comic, and it is doubly so in the movies. It would also help to recast the part.

Mostly what I remember about her in the movie was a giant mole.
The Mole Man was a villain in the Marvel universe but he was a foe of the Fantastic Four, not X-men. ;)

I know this isn't the point of the video, and she probably doesn't even want people to talk about it, but if I didn't know about Lana, I still wouldn't know from that video. She did a good job.

I really hope the movie is good.

wurwolf

I thought that, too, Kete. She looks great, and what's more, very happy and comfortable in her own skin now. :)

Michael Douglas, Matt Damon Go '70s-Retro in Liberace Biopic

Dat hair. Dem collars!

QuoteFresh off the success of Magic Mike, Steven Soderbergh's fascination with showmanship continues. His current project is a HBO biopic about Liberace and his behind-closed-doors love affair with a man 39 years his junior.

And now we have our first look at its stars -- Michael Douglas as the ultimate performer, Matt Damon as his youthful lover Scott Thorson -- in costume on the set of Behind the Candelabra. The pair sport 1970s hairdos and massive collars in a car-shopping scene shot on location in Los Angeles. The shoot will also take them to Las Vegas and Palm Springs.

Liberace and Thorson first met in 1976 when the pianist was 56 and Thorson was just 17. Liberace soon hired him as a companion, assistant and driver. Despite Liberace's public denials about his homosexuality, the two became lovers -- but things ended badly when Thorson filed a $113 million palimony lawsuit in 1982. The two reconciled before Liberace's death from AIDS-related complications in 1987.

The movie, which also stars Rob Lowe, Dan Aykroyd and Cheyenne Jackson, is from a screenplay by Richard LaGravanese, who adapted Behind the Candelabra: My Life With Liberace, Thorson's memoir of his years with the flamboyant pianist.

This...not so much.

Seriously, I feel a little nauseous after watching that.

Looks interesting. And kudos to Michael Douglas for still doing this kind of range of acting this late in his career, going from playing Gordon Gekko again to Liberace under what looks like lots of makeup.

I am just hoping for a cameo of Elvis in one of the flashbacks, played by Bruce Campbell.
