I saw it with the girl I'm dating, and, well, it's obviously not a date movie.  We were probably the oldest people there who were not accompanied by children.  I thought it was allright.  Better than Ninja Turtles III, obviously.  Maybe even slightly better than Ninja Turtles II.  But the first movie will always hold a special place in my heart.  The guy who played Raph in the first one was so much better than any of the people who followed him.

I'm chiming in a little late but I saw this last weekend and I enjoyed it. I always loved the ninja turtles as a kid and this did not disappoint, despite the few plot holes in the story line. My brother saw it too and he also loved it, even though he didn't really grow up with the originals (he was only 1 or 2 when it was popular, but he still likes TMNT anyways).

I thought the movie was weak and unnessecary.  Had it been a live action movie, it would have gone straight to video.  There wasn't enough pandering to nostalgia and cheeziness to make it appealing to the ironic minded 25 year old and they didn't go in the opposite direction to make it a darker, more intriguing story a la batman begins.  Instead, all you were left with were some admittedly appealing images, a cool fight scene or two, no shredder, a bunch of ridiculous monsters that look like they were taken out of the "generic video game bosses" guidebook and the dreadful realization that Michaelangelo was one of the most annoying characters you've ever seen in a movie before.

It was an hour and half-long cut scene from a video game. But it was Ninja Turtles, so I didn't mind.

Well there's a reason for that feel. The dude who directed it worked with Shiny Studios on Earthworm Jim and a few other video games. :^)

ahh earthworm jim, we miss you

Did anyone else feel like they were playing an acid trip the first the time they played it?

All I really remember is that you could shoot blackbirds, and they'd explode into a puff of feathers and a beak. How I laughed...

I enjoyed it, but our roommate, who saw it earlier, pointed out something that I was then unable to NOT notice the entire film: the way the Turtles are designed, it looks like they're all wearing corsets for the whole thing.

Their front shells are very bustier-like, now that I think about it. Observe.

personaly, it looks like a decent movie, but i can't get over the fact that they were too cheap to use computer animation than real actors. that's what made the first 2 so great. having 4 men dressed up as turtles. think of the comedic value in that. with this new one there's no real comedic value. i can't go see it with my friends and discuss what it must have been like in those turtle suits. think of the comedic value... THE COMEDIC VALUE !!!
You know it's hard enough trying to decide on which movie to see at a theater, much less trying to find someone to help pay the massive amount of money it takes just to see one these days. i mean it'd help if movies these days were actually interesting, but so far no dice on that front...

Normally, I'd agree. But the CGI in this case was actually used to do what CGI was meant to do: It showed us something in motion that could not possibly be accomplished with hand drawn animation or puppeteering. You actually get to see Ninja Turtles do Ninja-ing, and it's never been effectively done 'til now. :^)
