Lionsgate wants to remake Twilight already

http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/56500/lionsgate-remaking-twilight-were-all-doomed
Yeah, I posted about that in the "movies that are going to suck" thread.

I understand Lionsgate wanting to keep it around because of the money it makes. And it certainly didn't have any dignity originally, so it's not like they are ruining anything. But really, how hard is it to make a Twilight clone with another name (they've already done that anyway with Red Riding Hood) that has the same appeal to the same demographic.

Because, as knockoffs like Red Riding Hood, rom-coms with Robert Pattinson, or anything that "stars" Taylor Lautner have proven, that demographic is really interested in one thing and one thing only: Twilight. They don't care about the actors, those sorts of love stories from other sources, or anything much else when it comes to pouring in their money and turning something into a phenominam. It's that one slice of sparkly vampires and the werewolves that love them that's got them up and fandom-forming, and they won't be accepting substitutes.

Of course, the trouble comes from the fact that this series is, slowly and surely, starting to fade. Mostly because the pre-teen girls who first got into the books and made the whole thing as massive as it was have now grown up a bit and (hopefully) developed actual taste. All that remains is the older housewife market, which, while still lucrative, also has a ton of other cheesy romance thingamajigs to flock to.

Invader_quirk

The only other Twilight-esque thing that girls loved was The Covenant, which may be even worse than Twilight.

rom-coms with Robert Pattinson,

Are there any?  I hesitate to get all semantics with you, but I looked at his IMDB and nothing I saw seemed like a rom-com.  Do you mean chick flick or weepy?  Cause he's in a lot of them.

Or are you talking about this?

Now that's a rom com I want to see!

Relaxing Dragon

Yeah, Chick Flicks is probably what I meant (stuff like Remember Me or Water for Elephants). Sorry, those two sub-genres always sort of blend together in my mind. Which is a bit sexist, I realize, but the quality speaks for itself.

'Kick-Ass 2′ Is Happening

QuoteThe 2010 movie Kick-Ass was a surprise hit, earning more money than any movie featuring unfamiliar "superhero" characters (including children) doing horrifyingly violent things would ever be expected to. But, nothing changes mainstream acceptability like success, so now there are plans for a sequel, at least according to the first movie's star Aaron Johnson:

"It's pretty much set to go, this fall. I think now Chloe [Grace Moretz] and Chris [Mintz-Plasse] are on board. I'm certainly set up to do it. Jeff Wadlow is to direct. Yeah, I think it's going to happen."

Evidently the director of the first movie, Matthew Vaughn, has moved on to bigger and brighter superhero franchises with X-Men: First Class. But Johnson has gone on to confirm that the sequel will retain the hard-R-rated violence that made the first movie so, uh, R-rated. Add to that a likely cameo from Nicolas Cage, and it looks like all the fans of the first Kick-Ass will be mighty pleased with Kick-Ass 2.

Kick Ass 2? Don't mind if I do!

The second trailer for "the Master"

Not as enigmatic as the first trailer, but it still looks great.

Universal is setting Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver to write the script for the fourth film, which will be produced by Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy. Spielberg won't direct this one. The first three films, which started with the Spielberg-directed 1993 blockbuster Jurassic Park based on the bestselling novel by Michael Crichton, have grossed over $1.9 billion worldwide collectively. I am interested if it is based on that crazy script from years ago where the military has weaponized the dinosaurs.
