I kind of agree that there is no need for the complicated CGI riffing.  I think skits would be cool but the riffing seems like a whole lot of trouble for nothing special.  I don't need to see Mike to know it's him talking.

On the other hand, the reason I like Rifftrax more than mst3k is that there is no dumb "backstory" to go with it. Sorry guys, but I found the whole Mads concept tiresome.  I think I'm in the minority.  I loved the musical segments and the comedy bits so that would be ok as long as we don't get to complicated and decide that Dis's mom is a GE Dishwasher and she decided to let Mike adopt him after he got fired from the cheese factory but Dis's dad, a toaster oven, was upset that Mike was poisoning their child's mind with riffing and decided to take it out on the world by showing bad movies and only Mike's super riff powers can save us from impending doom (which is what I kinda thought when Mike said, "That's not safe."  Like Dis was shining the Bat Symbol and Mike was riffing to protect Gotham).

So yeah, humor segments = good, riffing = kinda pointless.

I think that this RiffLabz would work best as a "supplement" to the rifftrax proper.  In other words, there could be skits, additional riffs, and visuals to the rifftrax mp3 that we buy that would compliment the material.  For instance, there was a riff when Bill got up to leave the room at one point, and you could hear his footsteps, etc.  This could be a point where a small rifflabz segment could be created that gives us a video to compliment the audio that we're hearing.

maybe so but its a minority i share.  I really liked pearl brain guy and bobo, but outside of their antics the whoel so called plot seemed unnessicary.

Perhaps they could animate the intros, and we could use them on the DVD reauthors.

Keep in mind: the whole "chase through time" storyline was forced on Best Brains by Sci-Fi. Although, obviously, I'm a bit partial to Pearl.  :)

As the avatar suggests. So cgi, huh? Kind of a little bit weird, but I might be able to get used to it. I originally thought the youtube video was an alternate version of Dire Strait's Money for Nothing music video:

Ive always liked the second one :) UHF is such a great movie

And now for comparison, the rifflabz reveal:

heh what type of mystie do you take me for lol  of course i know that.  ;)  granted i STILL think it was a neat improvement.   One of my favorite ones was where mike was put on trial for blowing up all those planets (agent for harm i beleive)

Personally, I thought the backstory worked better in the Joel era; though Mike never really looked pained at the goofiness of it, he never seemed enthusiastically interested as Joel always was, and it felt to me as though he'd rather have just gone straight into riffing.

Not trying to start a Joel vs. Mike debate, but it did make a difference to how fun the mads were for me.

AmandaGal

I think that is one of the reasons I liked the Mike era more.  The mads were more prominent and the plot was more prominent in the Joel era (invention exchanges, etc).  I can't stand to watch that kind of "host segment."

It takes different strokes to build the world, yes it does.

I'm in the minority of fans who loved the whole chase through time and space. Observer and Bobo were awesome, Pearl made a great antagonist, and it brought about some inspired bits that wouldn't have been possible otherwise. I also dug Castle Forrester. Thought it was a neat backdrop.

totally.  i loved the whole "lawgiver" bit too.

Just out of curiosity, what WAS the purpose of the invention exchange?  those usually just irked me.

I loved the invention exchange!  But I'm still more of a (Sci Fi era) Mike guy myself.  More on topic, though, I don't know about the RiffLabz thing so far.  I mean, it's kinda cool, but I'm not thrilled yet.  I'm waiting to see where it goes.  Honestly, if we're gonna have something visual, I'd rather just have video of the real, live Mike Nelson.  Actually, a comment someone else made earlier made me think.  It'd be super cool to have video introductions to the movie rather than (or supplemental to -- perhaps even for a little extra, say 99 cents?) the audio intros.  I'd love to get something like that on my re-authored DVDs!
