I like your idea Amanda, I think it could work ...but I also think CGI offers potentially cool host segments too...Its kinda like Rifftrax: the Cartoon :)  (we'll see if they actually produce any more CGI in the future though) ...I agree that the announcement wasn't something that I would've guessed but it is cool to see a digital Nelson, right?

AmandaGal

That's true.  CGI can do a lot of things that the real Mike can't (or can he?).  I guess I just miss seeing the big oaf we all came to love.  The digital one is kinda freaky.  Not that that is a bad thing.  That DigiMike has spindly arms though.

You know, I think he was dropping hints with the talk on his blog about creating a Mii.  They are kinda freaky too but in a good way.

This should become a series of video podcasts.  That way you could submit them to iTunes and all the other podcasting distributors to get a bunch of free publicity.

i really don't see the point.  sorry.  2 minutes clips on youtube may be good publicity, but it doesn't do anything for me.

Well, yeah, I just assumed this was kind of a tech demo.  They could expand it out and make it more of a show.

AmandaGal

I assumed it was a promo, so you do see the point  ;)

Well, right. That wasn't the point. The point was the way the characters are interacting with the video, and whether or not people would like to see more of that. Whether it be on other peoples' YouTube videos, or more RiffTrax movie clips.

I'm envisioning a specialized RiffTrax player, wrapped around a DVD player, and capable of synching the audio to the DVD timecode.  Cues in the audio file would indicate which riffer is speaking, and the associated animated character would flap his gums, Teddy Ruxpin-like, at the appropriate time.  The player would also be capable of pausing the DVD and launching dedicated animations to introduce the track or provide a brief  intermission or host segment.

Sounds like an awful lot of time and money spent for probably minimal returns, but it would sure be cool.

Well it's an interesting idea, and I would like to see more.  I was just saying as someone who really isn't into watching clips on Youtube, it doesn't do anything for me.

I understand it's the next best thing to having the silhouettes back, it's not really the same thing.  Unless you guys have some really good financial backing and have Mike in a motion capture room, that really isn't the "Mike" we are use to.

Not trying to give you a hard time, I'm just here for the rifftrax i guess.

It's okay, that's more along the lines of the feedback we're looking for. WHY doesn't it do anything for you?

People have mentioned other ways of getting the same effect so that's something I will mention to "those who need to know" next chance I get. If it were just that easy to get the shadows back, I'm sure we would. But hey, RiffTrax isn't even a year old yet, so who knows what can happen in the future

The... not-too-distant future.

the main reasons are that these are, for now, clips,  not full movies.  I understand cgi would take a long time for a full length movie.  Second is keeping the viewer confined to a computer screen.  There wouldn't be a way for people that author our own dvd's to use any of this when we watch them on our TV's.

But the concept is interesting and I'm willing to wait and see where it leads.

I think the animation is cool, and I like the Copeland (I think) music at the beginning, and it's sort of overall delightful, but in case my 2 cents is worth anything, I think the riffing trumps the visual aspect to the point that I quit noticing the visual. I really don't think about the absence of the silhouettes, and even though I liked animated Mike and Dis, as soon as they slung some good riffs at Sam Elliott, I sort of forgot about watching them.  To me it's just about laughing at the skewering of the movie.   Also, I'm not a big YouTube person either--while this clip is neat, I sort of lose the will to live if I sit in front of a computer for too long!   To me, the DREAM technology would be some way of perfecting the Perfect Sync Technology. I reeeeaaaaalllllly look forward to new Rifftraxes, and I live for watching them, but I do have to keep getting up to briefly pause the audio--which makes my cat mad, and also creates a less-than-perfect DVD recording...   So...sorry, that's my lengthy version of: animation cool, but good riffing cooler!

Watching this clip mostly made me wish they would redo roadhouse with Kevin and Bill present!

I don't think we need to double-dip quite yet on Rifftrax but DisembAudio's riffs were not bad!
