And I've never heard of getting a job you didn't really interview for (although that could be just  not in my field).

I came close this past week. I interviewed at Macy's for an HR post with a really crappy interviewer. The questions were generic customer service questions, so I answered them regarding my previous work experience at Macy's because I saw it as a chance to say "Look how much I helped your company in the past. I'd love to get the chance to try it again!" This, however, only managed to convince the woman who was interviewing me--who asked me nothing about my experience dealing with office work or conflict or even if I was familiar with Microsoft Word--that I was better off in sales. And when she made this decision, she promptly cut off the interview.

I probably would have gotten a sales job that day if there was anything open. She just told me to wait three weeks until some new slots opened up and apply again. Said I would be a shoo-in.

So... still looking. (sigh) Still, a good learning experience, I guess.  :-\

Just completed my 2 Occupational Solution assessments for a Production Employee which is required to take before being hired on officially..

The first was a timed physical mechanics questionnaire and the other was a psych examination of my personality and how I work with others as well as abiding by rules and regulations and other BS..

Feel pretty good about both but there were definitely some trick questions in the physics part (lifting scenarios, momentum, volume, etc) as well as the personality questionnaire (abiding by a code of ethics, working with others, breaking rules and regulations, etc)..

Guess I should be hearing from them by the end of the week on when they want me to start :-\

So a few weeks ago I had what amounted to a five minute interview with somevbody who started by saying "I don't know how to do these things". So that was, interesting.

Yesterday she called me up and asked me to come in tomorrow to meet with her, the HR director and the President of the company for a second interview. Weird.

Well we'll see how that goes.

Ended up cancelling the aforementioned job interview that I wasn't comfortable with.  I was reluctant, because it seems like an irresponsible thing to do to not chase every lead, but I'm still pretty secure financially for a while.

Because you're receiving unemployment?

And I've got a couple thousand in savings plus very low monthly expenses.  It just didn't make sense to interview for a job I don't feel I'm qualified for.  I did that once, in 2004, and got the job.  Spent 10 miserable, stressful months there before coming clean and resigning.

That brings up a point for me..
I applied for a Quality Assurance job because I actually have 14 1/2 years experience in the field, not to mention I have a AA and BA degrees, but was offered a Coating Technician position that pays a bit less and only requires a high school diploma for education.. :-[

I know I've been out of the QA field for 6 years but still felt I was qualified to do the job.
They probably found someone who is currently in the QA field and chose him/her over me perhaps..

Not bitter about it really as I am glad to have picked up a job after only one interview, but despite my college background and running my own business for 10 years, I was only able to land a 'laborer' position :-\

At my work there are a number of QA people who have degrees in Family Science or Physical Education and the like.  It may just be a matter of getting your foot in the door.  I think that you've got enough experience to land QA role.

Thanks. I am still searching around, but I am pretty anchored in my current location..
Though a couple of those positions in Queretaro, Mexico caught my attention and the wife is really wanting to live there someday :o

Well they talked to me about the position as well as the possibility of becoming the Assistant Managing Editor, which, considering they don't actually have that position is.. a good sign?

I do think about it but I would not be able to sell my house for what I got in it, and with our Spanish services business still hanging in there, It's really just not feasible for me unfortunately.. :-[
Unless there was some way to travel to a location to work and be able to come home from time to time.. :o
I know there's not that many types of jobs out there like that - You land a job in a different location, you're expected to move there permanently.
