Welcome, I'm new as well.  I also come from a time before a series of tubes, complete with homemade vhs copies of MSTies my friends and I made.  Those will never see the light of day again.

We made our own puppet, and named him Luxo.  His head was a clear plastic clamshell from a Polaroid camera and his body was a white plastic tube we found.  His mouth opened and closed via pulling a string in the back.  He broke several times.  I'd say he was adorable. 
We also made our satellite (The Space Needle) and our own set for filming the host segments.  And we riffed the Sailor Moon R movie, Reefer Madness and Terror of MechaGodzilla.  Since the advent of iRiffing, we might just get to do those again.  But not the host segments.  They were the hardest.
