What was your favorite movie when you were ten?

I thought this would be an interesting idea for a thread.

For me it was Star Trek 2.  Star Trek TNG was my favorite TV series when I was a kid and watching Star trek 2 when I was eight was the first time I had seen the old crew and I fell in love with the movie.  I have to admit I still laugh, cry, and cheer when I see this movie.  My family couldn't really buy the VHS tape(they were still around $30-$50 when I was a kid)so I would get it out of the library every other week or so.  I know my dad was sick of the movie by the time I turned ten and I am pretty sure the library's tape died because of me.  I lost count of the number of times I watched that movie when I was ten.  It stayed my favorite movie until I saw Lord of the Rings when I was sixteen.

It actually isn't a bad idea for a thread.

I'd seen a lot of films by the time I was ten (surprise).   There were the classics that I didn't know were classics, though I still loved them: Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Goonies, Ghostbusters and the like, but I had and watched a few other films on VHS too, like Honey I Shrunk the Kids, The Explorers, Flight of the Navigator, and perhaps the first "adult" comedy I loved as a kid - The Three Amigos.

Probably Return of the Jedi. I'm sure I've told this story elsewhere on this forum... somewhat recently if memory serves... but RotJ came out when I was nine and was still playing down at the local mall theater the following summer when I was ten... or maybe it was brought back for the summer... not really sure. Anyways, the mall had $1 tickets on Wednesday before 5pm or whatever it was... so after snaking $3 worth of loose change for a ticket and Coke from my old man the previous week, I would tell my babysitter I was going out to play and then would ride my bike the two miles to the mall to see the noon showing of RotJ. I must have saw it six or eight of the possible Wednesdays available during that summer vacation. I remember getting busted once for going to the mall by myself when I tried to wait out a nasty summer downpour and didn't make it home until after Dad got home. I was grounded for a week with no MTV... and seriously... that was a big punishment back then because mid 80s music videos either ruled or sucked in gloriously awesome ways.

I would have been 10 in 1989... let's see...

I honestly don't remember for sure what it was.  I really liked a bunch of the old Disney family movies mainly for sentimental reasons (the whole family getting together to watch them).  Definitely liked the Star Wars movies as well.  Obviously G.I. Joe: The Movie (Insert plug for a certain iRiff here) was a favorite.  The Muppet Movies... The Goonies... Even today I couldn't tell you what my favorite movie of all time is.

One that I really remember liking was called The Rescue.  Never came out on DVD.  Here's the IMDB listing: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095981/

Although I think if I had to pick one for when I was ten, it'd be UHF.

Ah back when the M in MTV stood for Music. Unlike today when i have no idea what it stands for but it sure isn't music.

Easy.  Star Wars.  It wasn't known as "A New Hope" yet, it had only come out in May of that year.

Yeah, I'm old...

Ditto for Star Wars, which shall always be just Star Wars to me.

And I'm a few years younger than Dan, so it was still my favorite movie even after seeing the Holiday Special.

Yeah Star Wars was up there for me too when I was ten but Wrath of Khan beet it thanks to my being such a huge Star Trek fan and I think Kahn is a better villain then Darth Vader.  I know I got picked on a bit for that when I was a kid.

Wow.  There is no way I'm going to remember what my favorite movie was then.0

Tripe

Kind Hearts and Coronets, which is still one of my favourite films.

Much like Basehart, I had already seen a ton of movies. Watched the most were definitely Princess Bride, Clue, Goonies, and Ghostbusters (and a mess o' Disney films). But after much consternation, I decided to claim Back To the Future 2 as my favorite.

Stand By Me. I wanted to see it ever since I saw the previews on TV. My dad told me he didn't think I would like it, most likely because it's an R rated movie with a lot of cussing, and he didn't want me to see it. My parents were pretty lenient and let me see it. I must have had them rent it 2 times.

when I was 10 the Star Trek and Star Wars movies were great and unadulterated, but of course by that time Star Trek V had already come out, so the Trek series had that against it, as well as TMP. But when i was 10, my favorite films were probably still Return of the Jedi, Empire, and Wrath of Khan. If i had to choose though, my favorite movie at the time would probably still have been the original Star Wars.

In my early teens, Jaws 3 and Monster Squad were my favorite films, and I watched those tapes nearly every day. Now, Monster Squad still holds up (mostly) but Jaws 3 is a shameful memory.
