QuoteWhat Paul Verhoeven movie will Hollywood remake next? A remake of Total Recall opens next year. A Robocop remake is on track for 2013. Now comes word that the producer of the Fast & the Furious movies is readying a reboot of Starship Troopers.

NY Magazine's Vulture is reporting that Sony super-producer Neal Moritz (also the producer of next year's Mars-less Colin Farrell remake of Total Recall) has hired screenwriters Edward Miller and Zack Stentz (Thor, X-Men: First Class) to get cracking on a remake of Paul Verhoeven's 1997 campy, ultra violent, extremely loose film adaptation of Robert Heinlein's science fiction classic novel Starship Troopers.

No word if the approach to the material will be over-the-top along the lines of the 1997 feature or more serious-minded like that of the original source material. Oh, who are we kidding? We all know this reboot will probably have even less in common with Heinlein's novel than Starship Troopers or any of its direct-to-video sequels and animated follow-ups.

I wouldn't mind if it was a more serious adaptation of the source material...But otherwsise, what the hell, man?

A remake is fine, as long as Neil Patrick Harris is in it again.

I think I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that just about every movie will be remade at some point. Hollywood has been creatively bankrupt for a long time and it's only going to get worse, resulting in them having to borrow against the past more and more.

Think about how weird it's gonna be when they start remaking shit like Avatar.

I thought the original didn't make all that much money when it came out? Isn't that why all the sequels were direct to video? Besides, this is the movie everyone either loves or hates when they think of Verhoven movies. It doesn't really have near universal nostalgic love that a remake needs in name recognition.
