for my 150th post on these forums, I decided to use my digital talent to piece together our next photo...

Should be interesting for the riffing:

I also included a few simple riffs of my own in there.. dont mind that, it was an attempt to make Mike and his office crew laugh at my work...

Richard Thomas Nelson could generally abide by the simple customary dress of the Puritan community -- save for his blue terrycloth bathrobe with smart matching headband and feather!  Unwilling to part with the treasured garments, he one day exiled himself most gaily.

A behind the scenes photo during the recording of The Adventures of Edward the Less.  Mike likes to get into character.

"Old Mike Bombadil is a merry fellow / Bright blue his jacket is and his boots are yellow / None has ever caught him yet, for Mike he is the master / His songs are stronger songs and his feet are faster."

I almost cried when they cut Tom from the film.  Sorry.  I know this is a place for laughter and cheer but it still makes me sad.

Just let me don my flame proof suit... <ZIP>

Bombadil was sort of a throw away character anyway.. as was the tomb wraith stuff.  It would have slowed the opening for the film (like the 20 min intro to Hobbits that Jackson took out of the first movie, only to put back in with the SE).  Get them on their way to find Aragorn and get the story started.

(in case you're not a Tolken nerd)

Bombadil was thrown in the first book for Tolken's kids anyway since he wrote short stories about him and he was sort of a family favorite.

But everyone has their own opinions...  I didn't understand the whole thing of the intro in the first movie where they laid down the whole history of the rings in one big clump rather than spread it out.. but hey, its Hollywood (or whatever the New Zealand equiv is)

I like the stuff people trying and convince you that Bombadil was the Witch King... now those were good Usenet posts like 10+ years ago.

Oh I agree with you.  From a film standpoint it wouldn't make any sense to put him in.  Too much time wasted.  But it doesn't make sense to end the last film as they did, again, too much time wasted.

There's just something about a person with yellow boots that can kick ass that is so lovable to me.  One of the only beings that isn't affected by the one ring, and he wears yellow boots.

Not to turn this into Tolken Nerd-fest 2006, but...

I found myself thinking in the theater "Just on the DAMN BOAT!"

I think the reason that he couldn't fall under the rings influence is that his "leaf" was of a higher quality that everyone elses.

Pssst!  He got it from the cool Hobbit dude who wants you to hang out on bean bag chairs and listen to some stuff he "just put down on the 4-track, man".

But seriously, why didn't anyone think to just strap Frodo to one of those Eagles and just fly over and throw it in?

I call it "The 20 minute LOTR"

QuoteHave you ever read The Adventures of Tom Bombadil?

Parts.. at least like the 2 or 3 poems that actualy deal with Tom.  But it is a seperate work than "The Hobbit"

Grapes? I hate grapes, I can't stand grapes. I loathe grapes. All kinds of grapes. I hate green grapes and I hate purple grapes. I hate grapes with seeds, I hate grapes without seeds. I hate them peeled and nonpeeled. I hate them in bunches, one at a time and in small groups of twos and threes.
